LA Public Transportation Question
I'm going to be in LA next week and I've got a transportation question for you. My friend just moved to Studio City, she doesn't have a car. I'll be in town for an interview, so won't have a car either...and I'm staying at the Biltmore (downtown, think Staples Center-ish). Is there any earthly way to use public transportation??

If not, it looks like I'm free Monday night...anyone want to grab a bite to eat?? ;)

2. Get yer trip planner right here...

Note: Though I lived in SF and Oakland years ago, I have never even been to LA, largely because of these same issues (non-driver here). Thus, I cannot vouch for the excellence, or otherwise, of this service.

3. My wife has used that with some success.
Not a fast way to get around, but neither is the freeway.

4. Is it safe for a
20-something female, alone at 10 pm? I think I'm sold on the convenience, but I'm a bit nervous, particularly given the area around the Biltmore. :scared:

6. We actually DO have mass transit here in LA .......................
there are lots of buses, and the subway, too. From Studio City (what street??) you can hop on the Red Line Metro Rapid bus east to the Red Line Subway, which goes downtown and connects with the other light rail lines (Gold Line to Pasadena, Blue Line to Long Beach). You can buy a weekly bus pass (at some shops, and maybe on the bus too, and probably at the subway station) or a $3 daily pass (on the bus). From Ventura Blvd in SC to downtown is not going to take more than 45 minutes-1 hour. Unless you are located far from Ventura Blvd.

You can PM me if you need more info. I am located in the west end of the San Fernando Valley (W of Studio City).

If you were coming later in the fall you could also check out the new Orange Line Dedicated Busway which will go all the way across the Valley from N Hollywood to Warner Center. Things have really changed from when I came here in 1983 (transit system was worse than useless then).
