We've had two smallish grass fires within two miles of my house so far. The worse fire season is yet to come. Yikes.
What's happening where you live? I think we are in for a very bad fire season with all the unusual growth this year. I just hope for early rains.

1. Saw my first fire and bomber run yesterday. Chico |

The fire was a tiny thing 50 yards from the fire station. A small car had parked on some dry star thistle and up it went.
An hour later I say the first fire bomber of the season make a loaded run. When they take off from the airport they have a distinct path and sound to them vs. when they are empty. Brush is very thick & dry around here.

Probably some spot fires-- there are ALWAYS fires somewhere-- but none of the smoke hanging in the air from lots of small fires or a few BIG ones that we often get by this time of year. It's dry, of course-- our wet spring has given way to the usual end-or-summer tinderbox. no major fires up here yet, though, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

We had the wettest year in 110 years so things have been very quiet this fire season. There is also the fact that the huge wild fire two years ago burned just about everything so there isn't a lot of fuel left for more wild fires. The wild fire in San Diego County in 2003 was the biggest ever recorded in the US so it will take a long time for bushes and trees to regrow.
