Bush staying at Hotel Del Coronado Monday night: Vigil proposed
Edited on Fri Aug-26-05 10:03 PM by Liberty Belle
A San Diego TV station just announced that Bush will be staying at the Hotel Del Coronado Monday night, before his Tuesday morning appearance at North Island naval air station.

Wouldn't it be great if we could hold a candlelight vigil for Cindy Sheehan outside the hotel Monday night? Singing anti-war songs to serenade our president, into the wee hours of the morning.

Anybody up for a sing-along?

1. Go Californians! Why
should bush sleep in peace when so many families have been torn asunder because of his LIES?

If the hotel won't allow protesters on its property, there's a public beach just behind the hotel. Nothing like a good old-fashioned California beach party to top off the summer!

26. Are you sure it is public?
The beach I mean. I thought it was a private beach and had been since the 1880's or so.

I am not really a fan of anti-war songs.

3. Hey cool
I visited that place last summer...cool old hotel. Very right wing area though. They had an exhibit on all the famous people who visited, and showed presidents. All of them were shown at the hotel, except for the section on Clinton, which showed Air Force One over the hotel, as if it were leaving. Kinda funny really.

I'm stuck in Louisiana, but I'd love to be there.

5. Yes, the Del has hosted many presidents, plus royalty.
Supposedly it's where the Duke of Windsor met Wallis Simpson, for whom he abdicated his throne.

A bit of trivia: Know who installed the electric lighting at the Del, way back in the 1800s?

Thomas Edison.

10. What are the room rates the taxpayers are paying
for his grandstanding? While Cindy is in a tent. His kids didn't go to war and he's staying in a prestigious hotel. Cindy who lost her son to Bush's war is sleeping in a tent. Where's the sense?

See? They are on the defensive, mark my words. They're petrified that this situation is going to start growing.

Just watch, Bush will be AWOL from Crawford the rest of the month. He thinks he's pulling a fast one on Cindy.

11. The Hotel Del is definitely no office.
This slacker couldn't stand the protests in his hometown so he escaped to a "friendly repug" resort in Idaho and now thinks he can gallivant around the country visiting other high class resorts. Unfortunately, he forgot CA hates him! Oh well. He'll find out soon enough.

15. Great idea- wish I was there I'd join in! But you need to get a BIG Crowd
You may want to get started posting- find out first, what you need to do regarding security since there won't be time for permits. But I think we should make it a habbit of given him a "warm" welcome everywhere he goes. Let's not only ruin his vacation- let's make his road trips miserable as well!

Maybe the Mafia will be hiding under Bush's table or an anti-war protester will meet him in the elevator.

30. So what are the plans for security?
Edited on Sat Aug-27-05 11:04 AM by MindPilot
Are they going to shut down the hotel completely to the general public that they did with that place in Idaho?

The Del is a pretty public place and it would be very difficult to secure unless they plan on sealing off the whole island.

We're trying to make reservations right now to find out.

On Edit: No room at the inn. Imagine that! I'll bet they will close the bridge and the strand to all but residents.

36. If they close off Coronado, we'll have a protest rally downtown
near Horton Plaza. Bush wouldn't see it, but the TV crews and public will.

There are ferryboats out to Coronado, and you can also rent private boats. I'd love to see a regatta out there with signs on every sail.

Here's a few other possibilities (though that one is the one I DEFINITELY want someone to carry for me):

They hate us for YOUR war!

Cindy's STILL waiting

Talk to the lady

When do our troops get a vacation? Permanently...

We know. Rove outed Plame.

:hi:

Vigil is 7-9 pm at the hotel Del Coronado Monday night;
Protest is Tuesday morning outside North Island's gates; Bush speaks at 8:30 but be there early.

We're expecting huge crowds--the island will be packed, if they don't shut it down.
