Edited on Mon Aug-29-05 09:29 AM by Liberty Belle
Final Update on Bush Events Monday & Tuesday

(please kick this thread--we want a HUGE crowd!)

Candlelight Vigil:
President Bush, Our loved ones are dying in an unjust war. WHY?

Monday Evening, August 29, 2005 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM

The President will be staying overnight at the Hotel Del Coronado on Monday night, prior to giving a speech commemorating VJ Day at Naval Station North Island Tuesday morning. A vigil is planned for Monday night and a demonstration early Tuesday morning.

Gold Star Father, Fernando Suarez del Solar, along with military families, veterans and other patriotic Americans from the community will hold a candlelight vigil near President Bush's hotel Monday night. This will memorialize and honor the service men and women who have already died in the Iraq war, and call for the President to end the war and bring the troops home safely.

WHERE: On Coronado Island along Ocean Blvd. Near Flora Ave and Rh Dana Place. (Directions: Take Coronado Bridge to Orange Ave. Left on Orange Ave. to Rh Dana Place. Right on Rh Dana Place - becomes Ocean Blvd.. Vigil will be on Ocean Blvd. along the beach.) No parking will be permitted along Ocean Blvd. on Monday and Tuesday. Carpool if you can and park as far away from the Hotel Del as you can.

We're in the North Park area (I can see the bridge from my front yard), and can stop by anywhere in the general area.

BTW, I'll be the big guy with the Survivor buff on. And a cane.

7. Good for you! I was in a white skirt, strolling along singing with
the guitar player, a friend of mine.

Cops estimate 2,000 anti-war protestors -- an amazing turnout in a supposedly conservative town.

Only 50-100 pro war demonstrators, all carrying identical signs from a right-wing radio station.

8. Thanks, Paine in the Hearse. You would've been proud.
San Diegans provided quite an "unwelcoming" committee for the Prez.

4. I'd like to try and make one of these...

Trying to round up some Black Mountain Dems to come along...
Haven't heard from them yet, but if I can make it tonight I'll be wearing one of the following two shirts (depending on the outside temps...

or

I'll also be carrying some Sibel Edmonds' memorabilia (that I just might be giving away from the stuff I'll be carrying)

or

Have a few "Re-Elect Donna Frye" bumper stickers too...

9. I didn't see you. Were you there?
Of course, it would be easy to miss you amid the crowd of 2,000 protesters! San Diego sure gave Bush a great "unwelcome" reception.

11. Yes, I was in a white skirt, playing the tambourine. ;-)
That's after I took off my "journalist" hat, interviewing anti- and pro-war protesters.

Quite an amazing night.

Are you going in the morning to the protest outside North Island? I'll be there, around 6:30 a.m.

Couldn't find anyone else from BM Dems either. And then overslept this morning. I'm not usually a morning person unfortunately! :(

24. The key is that you need a web site to put them on...
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 10:24 AM by calipendence
They aren't like text (or pasting them into your emails you send, etc.) when making a post here. I have my own web server I put stuff on. Other folks have other strategies. There are some sites that will just host images for you. Once you have them uploaded to a site, then you can just put a URL in your post for every image you want to show up...

http://(image_server_name_and_path)/(imagefilename1)
http://(image_server_name_and_path)/(imagefilename2)

DU's software translates what you type in here to real image references on the page, like it's done for my sig image here.

18. It was great! A small band of military age freeps showed up..
with pre printed counter-protest signs. Some radio station made them up for them. Oh how sad it was to see the wasting of so many minds.

oee was a PO3 (Petty Officer Third Class) and identified himself that way, guess what that is against the UCMJ, whether he showed on your side of the fence or the other side of the fence.

25. Good for you!
Thanks, Nadin. Hope you're feeling better by now.

Note: Voice of San Diego has another article up saying that the candlelight vigil was a "massive" demonstration with "thousands" of anti-war protesters.

They are on my blog, we took some after it got dark and they did not turn out to great so these are only at one end and mostly of me and my partner.
