California Democratic Party Stabs Volunteers in the Back |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-03-05 01:30 PM by genius
The E-Board of the CDP, yesterday, voted to end the series of major victories the Democrats have had in California by going back to the system that put Wilson and Hayakawa into the Senate, Deukmejian and Wilson into the governor's seat and gave the state legislature to the Republicans and made it hard for Democrats to win victories in this state. From now on, the Party will, instead of giving volunteers in the AD committees a say, will be giving all the say to beauty constestants who bring busloads full of well-payed supporters to caucuses. This was a disaster the last time they did this. These people only have to show up once every two year. The history is that people who can afford to buy the busloads and single-interest groups are the ones who wind up running the party unders such as system. Already, AD committees are talking of disbanding and volunteers are talking of quiting. Hopefully, people will hang in there long enough to get rid of Arnold. The changes take place immediately following Arnold's election. The last election, the current system (which rewards volunteers with a say in the party) propelled Barbara Boxer to the largest victory of any Senate candidates in the history of the United States. When something works, the CDP has decided, it's time to break it.
A motion had been made that a decision of such importance be left to the 5000 member body of the state central committee when it meets at it's convention. The change was expected to fail by a large margin there. However, this motion lost out to members who didn't want to give the volunteers on the central committee a choice. While the E-board had a quorum, a great many members were missing. Sad day for Calfiornia.

2. Should the state positions be bought or earned? |
|
Should only the rich be allowed to run the party or should the hard-working volunteers have a say?
I've heard from a great many AD chairs, that their volunteers are planning to quit as a result of the vote. They could have at least allowed the members of the central committee to vote on the subject.
