SAN FRANCISCO -- Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown has denied rumors he is running for state insurance commissioner, but confesses he is planning to become a journalist.
"I am not running for any political office, ever. Period," Brown said Sunday night during an interview on "4 the Record," a local political talk show broadcast on television station KRON. "I hope to have a television show, a national television show."
Brown caused a stir July 15 when he filed papers to run for state insurance commissioner in 2006. He said on the television show that he did it because of campaign finance deadlines that require him to relinquish the $835,000 he collected for a state Senate race that never happened, unless he transfers the money to another campaign .
Brown said that about the third of the money he collected will be returned to the original donors and the remainder will go to charities. He said he expected to distribute the money by the end of July.
