4 those who know SoCal weather:What time(s) of year have the worst weather
I'm wondering typically what months or times of year both are the most unbearably hot(like over 90)? and What times of year tend to be the coldest and/or rainiest(the stretch of time where beach whether is pretty unheard of)?

Thanks in advance.

1. SoCal too hot always
for me anyway. Dang desert. Santa Ana winds are horrible because you get no relief at night. September tends to be super hot in Orange County because the clouds burn off by 9AM and then it is just blazing all day long.

The rainy season is a joke, hills are green for about 3 weeks then back to brown. Which reminds me --- you know why california thermometers have a red line at 55 degrees? Because that's "freezing" in California.

2. Depends on where you live...
West LA and the beach communities are cooler than the valley. Rains in February. Hot is August and Sepetmeber. January is beautiful. I miss Santa Monica and Venice Beach.

3. Aug and Sept too too hot.
Cold? I was born and raised in Southern Cal and never really remember it being really really cold for a long period of time.

Hope that helps

4. I mean cold enough that it's not pool and beach weather
And I'm talking about the LA area coast, sorry, I should have specified.

5. Typically:
Cold-rain: Feb-March-April
Hot: July-September
Best: April-May-June

Opinions will vary. The only time it sucks totally and
reliably is July-August, but I hate the heat. There is no
such thing as a time when there is no beach weather.

6. California is a big place!
It's been too many decades since I spent any time on the coast, so I can 't help you with that. I can tell you about the weather in my area; the high desert.

June, July, August...absolute hell.

September...hot.

October...by far the best month of the year. Days are still warm, nights getting cooler, with the first frost falling somewhere at the end. Mild breezes.

November - January: cold, with a chance of some rain.

January-February...if we're going to get a lot of rain, it usually falls here. Or the rare snowfall.

March-April...cool nights, days warming up, really windy

May...warm and very windy

8. depends a great deal on where you are
For instance, here in San Diego county we have a whole bunch of microclimates. It gets very hot where I live, up in the foothills, while it's literally 10-20 degrees cooler down by the beach.

There hasn't been a rainy season here in way too long, btw.

9. Microclimates. Definitely.
Drive 25 miles in any direction and you'll get whole new weather.

Coastal Ventura County has June Gloom (from May to September) but inland (Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley) it can be hot as hell at the same time that the sun hasn't even come out in Oxnard.

10. Beach weather?
If you want to go into the water without a wet suit, then August or September is your best bet, imo. The water temp is about 70 here in Oceanside today.

I tell all of my family from back east not to come in January. It's typically cooler than they would expect southern CA to be. It's warmer than back home of course, but you aren't going into the water here in Jan.

11. in OC ...
last October, we had days where the forecast was "SMOKE" with occasionally ash flurries throughout the day

December 25 had heavy rain and winds all day

(it doesn't rain in southern California, but when it rains it pours)

It's beach weather now after the June Gloom, or May Gray days ...

I'd say Dec-Feb are cooler, wetter but not that wet ... sweatshirt weather ...

now, it's blue skies and gorgeous
no rain

12. I think there are five seasons here....
1. Summer - It is hot as hell...mostly unbearable (except near the coast). It never rains. The air is dirty and brown. This starts in the beginning of July and goes to about the middle of October.

2. Fall - The best weather here. Days can vary from moderately cool to hot, but the nights are comfortably cool - even cold - as you get closer to Winter. Every few years there may be a thunderstorm, but it is generally dry. The smog lessens a bit during this time. This period lasts until New Year's day.

3. Winter - This is the rainy season, if we're going to have one. While an occasional 80-plus degree day occurs, temperatures are generally cooler. During an especially rainy year, the sun can disappear for two weeks at a time. In an average year the rain comes in something like weekly cycles. Smog is seldom a problem. This season ends around the last week in March.

4. Early Spring - This is another really nice time - a lot like Fall, but cooler, and usually with a bit more rain. The rain is usually different from our big Winter storms in that it doesn't last more than a day. The air is generally clean. Early Spring morphs into Late Spring some time in mid-May to mid-June.

5. Late Spring - Commonly called "June weather" here, this is basically when the coastal pattern moves much further inland, i.e., clouds and haze clearing anytime from late morning to not-at-all. Temperatures vary according to how early in the day this "marine layer" lifts. The air is getting dirtier as we approach Summer. This ends by the Fourth of July.
