The National Republican Congressional Committee has filed a seven-page complaint letter with the Federal Elections Commission alleging the hosts of a popular talk radio show have illegally colluded with a Democratic candidate for Congress to oust Rep. David Dreier from office.
According to the complaint, John Kobylt and Ken Chiampou, hosts of the afternoon John and Ken Show'' on KFI, have made unlawful campaign contributions by making repeated on-air appeals for listeners to reject Dreier and elect Cynthia Matthews on Nov. 2.

Conservative AM talk radio has been a reliable voice for the Republican Party, from the relentless Clinton bashing of Rush Limbaugh in the 1990s to the criticisms of California Gov. Gray Davis.

Dreier was a top adviser for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in his campaign to replace Davis and appeared on the John and Ken Show several times to promote the recall effort. Now that the tables have been turned and an influential Republican is under attack, the Republican Party wants to pull the plug, Kobylt said.

1. Wonder if this radio show has outed Dreier and his Chief of Staff yet?
Or talked about the 25-30 countries that
Dreier and Smith have travelled to over the
past few years although Dreier has no foreign
relations position in Congress.

Certainly the district voters haven't been
told.

2. Nope, they don't seem to know. If they do, they
haven't mentioned it as far as I know. This is all about the repuke immigration policy which is a very big deal in Southern California.

They've made no mention of the fact that Cynthia is a lesbian either. I hasten to note, that I don't listen to the John and Ken show every day. Before the immigration flap started, Drier was one of their favorite guests.

3. They know that Dreier's gay....
maybe RNC and Dreier's camp want to keep
them from saying it, but seems they've
opened Pandora's box.

6. They won't out him. One of them is in the closet himself
I don't think they want to bring that up so they will probably lay off the outing tack.

I can't remember which is which but I think Ken is the never marrieds late thirties guy who used to be a CPA.
Then again, maybe John has a beard with kids, who knows/cares.

It's still annoying that sexuality can be used as a threat, isn't it?

4. What a disgrace!
Whether you area Republican or a Democrat or something else, this act by Dreier (through the NRCC) is an absolute disgrace and shocking.

How dare they try to suppress free speech! The nerve of this clown.

Moreover, going public with a lawsuit that is now on the front page of the DrudgeReport is just absolutely mindbogglingly stupid.

He should be winning the race handily being the incumbent, having millions in his warchest and being one of the most powerful republicans. Why bring attention to yourself.

I suspect that he is probably winning but that it is a lot closer than it should be. Why else would he be campaigning for the first time in three elections, spending well over a million dollars on ads and flyers and pulling this stunt.

Too bad the Democratic Party has abandoned Matthews because of the illegal immigration issue.

5. Well, *this* Democrat
...has not abandoned Matthews. I sent her a campaign donation and am pulling for her to win. Too bad I don't live in her district and can't vote for her.
