http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2004/11/19/MNGSB9UAM01.DTLThe FBI is investigating a prominent Oakland City Hall lobbyist and her relationship with state Sen. Don Perata, including whether she funneled payments to the East Bay lawmaker, according to law enforcement sources and other people familiar with the matter.
Investigators are looking into alleged tax violations by the lobbyist, Lily Hu, according to several sources, who spoke on the condition they not be identified. But the sources said the case also is focusing on Hu's business relationship with Exit Strategies, a political consulting firm run by Perata's son, Nick.
Investigators want to know whether that relationship "may be a conduit to funnel money back to Don Perata," one of the sources said.
