Anyone but Jerry Brown for AG
are there any other Democrats running for this?

I can't stomach the thought of Jerry Brown being AG

2. I liked Jerry when he ran for President
but he gets bad reviews these days. Why is he hated?

Hey, Dwickham! :hi:

5. hey Wickerman
he's trying to raise several million dollars so as to keep anyone else from the race

he's not the same Jerry Brown and I can't imagine why he would want the AG position unless he's positioning himself for something else

and remember, he just came back to the Democratic Party after being an independent

3. Politicallly speaking, he is not the same Jerry Brown as when he was Gov.
He has really moved to the center and has been elected twice. Not all politicos, in Oakland , like him, but residents seem to think he does a great job.

This is what is important. If the people of Oakland like ol' Jerry Brown, the son of former Gov. Pat Brown (a native of San Francisco btw), that should be enough respect for anyone.

Go Jerry!

7. Lockyear isn't up for re-election this year
it will be an open office

Lockyear is going to run for governor--I wouldn't vote for him for dogcatcher's assistant in charge of cleaning out the cages

I'm curious as to why you are so sour on Brown.

9. He's very honest and every thing he does is legal.
Jerry's problem is that he sticks to the letter of the Constitution and the law - even when he doesn't agree with the position. He has an opponent but that opponent won't even tell people where he stands on the issues. I'd rather stick with a known factor.

If your concerned about that police incident in Oakland a couple of years ago, Jerry fired the police chief responsible for the rubber bullets.

16. the police chief just resigned in Oakland
not sure if it was the same one you're referring to

Oakland is doing well under Brown but he's done things that I just don't agree with

the charter school issue is a big thing--I hate them--and he seems to think that they're the answer to everything

responsible for the rubber bullets at the demo near the docks at the anti-war protest. I was informed by some people in Oakland that the top cop ( I believe the police chief) responsible was fired by Jerry. I don't live up there so I get all the information second hand.

14. Jerry Brown is unelectable in a statewide election
The MSM and the right have effectively branded him as a fruitcake and I see no way he can shake that label. Remember Moonbeam? (extra credit if you know the real story behind the Moonbeam moniker and how forward thinking Jerry really was)

Jerry Brown is a gifted man with some fantastic ideas but I think he's just lousy at executing them. I wish he'd leave political office and go back to doing his radio show 'We the People' on KPFA (why not Air America?). I do admire his mind but I don't have much faith in his running any public office with any efficiency. California Attorney General? Cripes, can you say micromanage?

Hey, that's just my opinion because I really respect his ideas just as long as he sticks to talking about them.

15. jerry is a good guy, was a great governor
raising money doesn't keep anyone else out of the race, its the name of the game. Many hate him because he sidedwith the Oakland PD in a demonstration case, and he lived in an area to be redeveloped, and wanted to vote on it. The only complaints I know of, but I don't live in the east bay. I do like his public military academy innovation.

20. I have to disagree. Jerry is one of my heroes.
He fought hard against Prop 13, but so many in CA now blame it on him, saying he was stupid to use the budget surplus as a rainy day fund (yeah, real fucking stupid, right? What is Arnie going to do to bail out the flood victims, sell ANOTHER fucking bond??).

I was a co-chair of JB's presidential campaign on my college campus. He was amazing: talking about the incarceration rates in the US, talking about the crime of apartheid, talking about greening federal buildings to create jobs, spur technological development and save future energy costs (Moonbeam, btw, was started by some newspaper making fun of Jerry's discussion of alternative energy sources, no?). He just brought up issues that nobody else talked about or cared about (especially Clinton).

He did change after he became mayor. All of a sudden he wanted to increase the number of people put in jail instead of being concerned about the bullshit society that can't think of anything better to do than lock people up.

That said, I would back him all the way. He is brilliant, and I can't imagine anyone doing a better job. He'll be our own Elliot Spitzer, and a real thorn to Arnie (should he get, gulp, re-elected).
