What's your opinion of Jerry Brown?
Edited on Sat Dec-04-04 02:44 AM by urbanguerrilla
On one hand I read he's become the pragmatist extraordinaire in micromanaging a city, on the other hand it's the National Review doing the praising.

Personally, he's one of my all-time favorites.

2. I once held the office above the Governor's....
Literally! I worked upstairs from Jerry Brown, while I was an aide to a legislator in Sacramento. He's a very bright guy, actually, with his heart in the right place. I used to get very pissed off when the media called him "Governor Moonbeam." He was actually very down to earth--used to walk to work carrying a sack lunch. Can you picture King George doing that?

3. He should run for President in 2008
he seems to attract a lot of support from unexpected places these days.

12. He wouldn't win.
They'd dredge up the old stuff, plus I heard some fairly reliable rumors in Sacramento about his personal life; stuff the press would not keep quiet about in this day and age. We need some fresh blood.

That said, I wouldn't mind seeing Jerry run for Governor again, since he's still popular here in California where we've got lots of moonbeam followers. I wonder if he could beat the Terminator?

5. I was a fan for decades
I think he was a great Gov as well as handing a micro-managing inept city council their own heads in a hand basket in what was a brilliant political takeover of Oakland.
But recently he has shown a shocking dismissal of the needs and problems of Oakland's youth, and has backed the Oakland police in their brutal overreaction to a non-violent anti-war protest, despite the overwhelming evidence of a mistake in PD leadership.

His rapid transformation from a man of the people to a conservative law-and-order personality just happens to coincide with his plans to run for state district attorney.

To answer your question... I really don't know what to think about him anymore.

6. Inspiring.

I saw him speak in '91 at the University of Oregon. He came dressed in faded jeans, tennis shoes and a Teamsters Union warm-up jacket. The message sounded a bit like Howard Dean in '03 but delivered with more finesse. I was totally sold.

Clinton came to town a week later and that was the last we heard of Jerry.

Could he come back? Hey why not.

7. I have mixed feelings.
Like Clintoon with the blowjob he gave the "conservatives" an
opening, and his handling of the Prop 13 mess has been a continuing
disaster for the state. We had two terms of Duckman and two terms
of Wilson after him, he could have done better. OTOH, I like his
politics and his person and I've given him money and support from
time to time. I don't think I'd support him for President again,
better Dean or someone younger.

9. I wish he'd leave political office....
and go back to doing his radio show 'We the People' 'I the Person'...I really liked listening to him on KPFA. I do admire his mind but I don't have much faith in his running any public office with any efficiency. California Attorney General ? Cripes!

14. That's why I voted for March Fong Eu in the 2002 primaries
Jerry Brown is a gifted idea man...he's just lousy executing them. Hey, that's just my opinion because I really respect and admire his ideas just as long as he sticks to talking about them.

16. while you vote for a treacherous politician who not only supported
her RW Puke son , but campaigned against our Senator Boxer, Nice going your judgement leaves a bit to be desired. I voted for her for years, but never forgave her for 98.
