California Democratic State Convention
How many of you are making plans for the convention in LA this April? What issues would you like to see represented?

I can't remember the last one. Jerry's Dad maybe.

3. Keeping a Democratic Secretary of State is important
So we don't wind up getting rigged voting machines and obstruction of vote-counting tactics, like Ohio and Florida now have.

Starting a recall to get rid of Arnold if he launches an initiative drive to gerrymander California's Congressional Districts.

Pass a resolution to give preference to non-corporate backed candidates--we have to get rid of corporate influence on the DLC and DNC.

Pass a resolution to fight for paper ballots and no machines at all, with videotaped counting of ballots at polling places in front of witnesses from all major parties.

5. then we need to get rid of Kevin Shelley
if he gets the nomination in 2006, he's toast

so far only one Democrat has stepped forward to challenge him

Debra Bowen

9. He didn't get us the paper trail for 04 but it's scheduled for 06.
He wants to make sure his office is secure.

15. hmmm....I know someone who worked in his office
He left however to become a aide to a congressmember down in LA... gave me a bunch of dirt for the dealings with pundits running in the hall.

4. A challenge to Torres. Anyone got the courage to run?
It would be nice if Democrats had some options. How about Eric Bauman?

7. My personal issue is Education.
I'm a teacher, a product of California public schools, and have worked in public ed in CA for 22 years. I'm currently working on transferring to a different state because I just can't stomach what is going on in our public schools any more.

But before that issue can be properly addressed, I'd say the priorities need to be:

1. Defeat Arnold and return a democratic governor...BEFORE 2008.

2. Any and all strategies to make sure that CA stays solidly blue for 2008; dealing with voting machines, redistricting, etc.

3. And, as a state employee who has contributed to the state retirement fund instead of SS and has no SS credit, NO PRIVATIZATION OF STATE RETIREMENT.

8. I just got elected as a delegate!
I'll be representing the 77th Assembly District in San Diego.

Important issues? Ousting Arnold. Protecting Shelly (our Democratic Secretary of State) from GOP assaults. Giving Boxer all the support possible!

Halting the gerrymandering of California. Protecting our environment. Preventing the spending caps initiative proposed by Schwarzenegger from seeing the light of day. Protecting a woman's right to choose. Keeping a progressive slate. Urging Dems to vote in blocks against the erosion of civil liberties and core Democratic principals. Getting rid of term limits--to keep our good Dems in office. Getting more money for education, just for starters.

10. You guys actually have elections for the State CC in San Diego?
Edited on Sat Jan-08-05 08:24 PM by genius
The OC Democratic Central committee doesn't even know how they will fill all their openings and they're hoping members in the AD's go through the County Central Committee rather than their AD's for their state positions. Apparently there are more slots for state CC members in OC than there are positions for OCCC members and each time they have to fill the seat with alternates.

I guess San Diego is more competitive.

11. Block the Tim Roemers of the world from getting the DNC chairmanship.
He's funded by Richard Mellon Scaife.

13. Wow. I didn't know all of that. Thanks.
I knew he was anti-choice, but hadn't sink the link to his neocon backers. This is like a snake's nest, isn't it?

16. congrats!!!
My AD is a mess though, and the voting is tomorrow! I am waiting to see the fight though since there was someone going around in my district getting republicans and uncertified voters from special interests to go there and disrail the meeting. Oh well. I hope I get elected and see you at the convention!

12. Details please! Where, exactly when? It's in L.A., so maybe I can even go.
Hard to peel away from kid-related stuff, but I'm hopeful.

14. April 15-17. Get a sitter-or send the kiddos to camp.
Luckily mine are teens now, so they'll probably relish the freedom with Mom away. (Now that's a scary thought!) Luckily my hubby will still be in town, and works five minutes from home, so he can drop in for a "surprise" visit or two.
