Leter from the front-fight for a DEMOCRATIC Sec of State |
|
It might interest readers in this group that what has transpired here in the Golden State is of great interest in the East, particularly Georgia. I heard from my frineds at Verifiedvoting.org over the weekend on the Shelley issue. I have been working with activists in the e-voting controversy since 2000. Georgia was ground zero in this whole e-voting "experiment" that resulted in such anomalies as the election of the first republican governor since the 1870's (who also reversed the polling by some 11 points overnight). Among other notable anomalies- in Texas in 2002 using the Diebold systems included several winning candidates receiving the exact same number of votes-18,181. But to get back to the point of this letter, these activists (from Verified Voting . Org) have said Shelley's resignation is a "shout out" to secs of State nationwide considering fighting the imposition of these voting systems. Gotta Tell ya, the SF Chronicle is owned by the (NY based ) Hearst Corp which has a storied and clear agenda of promotion of both war (all the way back to the yellow journalism fueled Spanish-American War) and the political aims of some pretty serious neocons.
So take those "exposes" with a grain of salt.
Oh , and if you think every politician who hires a friend's son or uses other forms of patronage is suspect, or should resign guess what.......
So bottom line here, this was hardly an objective investigation, but rather an implied threat that "eventually ,we'll find something, you'll go bankrupt fighting us, and we'll see you in jail --or resign " choice. We all know since the days of Whitewater this "witchunt" technique of investigation is favored among the neocons.
So I'm aware of these allegations , but they are just that. I really lean more towards Georgia verified Voting's viewpoint; since no investigation existed or was talked about prior to Shelley sueing Diebold for fraud and winning.
I'm sure it's just a coincidence. Neocons and coincidence seem to go together. Mike Hickerson

I was more despondent Friday night when I heard Shelley resigned than I was on 11/2/04.
What is the same, however are my initial feelings of betrayal and abandonment because IMO Shelley gave up too soon the way John Kerry gave up too soon.
Wy are we more willing to fight than our leaders are?

2. He thought he was alone |

We, the public, didn't come through for him.
We've got to publicly and loudly support those who are under fire from the right wing at the very start - this is a pattern that solidified for the Republicans with the Clinton smears and has reached a finely - tuned level with Shelley - there will be many more unless we start fighting back.
He needed money , letters of support and calls to other Democratic legislators to stand behind him and none of that happened.
We have ourselves to blame for this.

4. It's not too late to help some of the damage. |

We can still send money, and there is plenty to raise hell about. His mother being in ICU was the last straw for him. Sometimes an attack is so effective that you just have to step down. But now we can let everybody know that what is happening is not alright.

5. you're right - hope dies last |

At least we can insist that a Democrat replace Shelley and we can raise money for him and shove that in the Chronicle's face.

3. I've been calling his office and posting and making myself a nuisance |

for a while now.
So disgusted this evening.
Well, this coming week, back in the saddle. Blasting the Chron, blasting the state leadership, blasting the fed level people. Not one penny to "investigate" Shelley while Ken Blackwell gets a promotion.

who in the name of good government turned the office over to gropenator. Recall Gloria Romero? Does anyone here believe for on moment that a Puke would resign? Hell, they had the arrest warrant ready before Quackenbush gave up. Let them get an impeachment from the Dem house first mext time( and they will do it again).

simply amazing
let's recall every Democrat that refuses to toe the party line
better yet, let's set up "re-education" camps in the Sierras or maybe even Death Valley
we cannot tolerate dissent--anyone who speaks out against any Democrat must be dealt with!
