ABC news and Anaheim Hills, CA--what gives?
Is ABC news on crack or what?

Yesterday, they reported on homes in Anaheim hills that were literally coming apart and sliding due to sink holes, etc. Today, when reporting the same story, they changed it from 'homes' to 'mansions.'

They had a better shot of me caring when they just said 'homes'.

Why should those of us that don't live in mansions care that their homes are crumbling and falling apart? Most if not ALL of the people in Anaheim Hills that live in mansions, voted for *. Ask me how much I care about their palatial homes coming apart?

If there are any Dems up there that are suffering he same problem--I DO feel badly for them.

I met a woman at the Kerry party on election night that said she lives in Anaheim Hills. When I asked her what the political climate was like there she responded, "nothing but Nazis..."

Yeah, my heart bleeds, boo f***** hoo...

4. Ah yes. Thank you. Correction taken. LOL!
I forgot that in yesterday's report they kind of put their hand over their mouths as they said, 'gated community' after homes.

14. Hey, I live in a McMansion ....
Edited on Mon Feb-14-05 07:36 PM by Maat
or so my hubby's partner accuses. What exactly is a McMansion. Mine is basically a 4,700-sq-foot box that goes straight back, with two stories, and enough room for a pool, deck, spa, and a few plants/trees in the back. Inland from Anahiem Hills, though - the Anaheim-Hills people paid way too much.

It's o.k. I'm a progressive.

Oh, and MINE is twice as big as theirs.

I feel bad when anyone else's home is destroyed, though. May they heal and become more compassionate themselves.

3. I wouldnt call them mansions

but there are large and expensive homes in that area.

Why glee at others misfortune ? How do you even know the people in question are not Democrats, as if that really mattered.

Presumably they are paying for these homes and face possibly catastrophic losses. What do you gain from their loss.

This is unworthy.

5. Where in my post did I express 'glee'?
I merely asked why ABC takes the time to report on the 'misfortunes of a few' as opposed to the concerns of the many. Just another small rant in regard to the msm and how they just don't get it.

Did they report on all the people in Ohio that were denied the right to vote? Did they report on the members of the senate that stood up to contest that vote? Did they report on the election being stolen? Did they report on ANYTHING of late that affects more than a small select group of people, other than the national weather report and the tsunamis?

Forgive me that it pisses me off that a national news station is reporting on the upheaval of a small group of people that can probably afford to repair their homes or even move off of their little hill into something less ostentacious. Why exactly is this something that should matter to ALL of the viewers of ABC Eyewitness news?

6. I hope they are insured against the losses
because I would hate to see taxpayer money going to support this.

Do you feed a few homeless people? Or do you bail a wealthy person out of a geological accident? I'm sorry, but we have more pressing needs.

Someone with enough money to buy one of these houses should have had enough sense to know the hills would be unstable.

8. Exactly, DBoon! Have you seen any of the coverage of this?
I had the same concern you just expressed as they showed some guy from the city of Anaheim who said they would be 'investigating' and attempting to 'rectify' the situation. I wondered why was this a city concern?

Unless of course their homes are threatening to endanger others that may not live on the hill (people beneath them geographically I mean) whose homes may be threatened by the crumbling mc mansions. This didn't seem to be the case though, as one mc mansion was actually tore down today (or so they said).

10. Typical, build houses on unstable soil,
and then be suprised when they slide down the hill, sink, flood or what ever. The joys of CA real estate. Some of the pricest homes are perched on the edges of cliffs above the Pacific, waiting to collapse when the cliff is undermined. Ah, but the view was great, especially before the house hits the water. And others live near fault lines. Geology is fun, but the loss of a few expensive homes is not that important in the big picture.

12. Some of us live right here in Anaheim and knew those hills were
unstable when the homes were built. In every major flood we've had that area has been involved in slides...and yes..it's a very Republican area..and NO I don't have a lot of sympathy. I don't wish them ill but I won't cry them a river either (not that they need one at the moment)

13. Hi--nothingshocksme--Did any of the residents of Anaheim
try to stop the construction of homes in that area? Just curious--

I know what you mean--while I wish them no ill will, it's tough to empathize or sympathize.

I saw over the weekend that some of those homes have been torn down. Or was it only one? I caught a quick story about it on the news, and wasn't paying a lot of attention.
