1. I'm not a local but Jan Schneider is running against her |

Unfortunately its a heavily (R) district so Harris could be found in bed with 3 twelve year old blind boys and they'd still vote for her.

2. There are 4 candidates |
|
Palmetto Attorney C.J. Czaia and Sarasota attorney Jan Schneider Sarasota banker Christine Jennings and Manatee Community College instructor Floyd Jay Winters.
Schneider has the best chance of winning, hgaving been around longer. C.J. is a strong speaker and will go far, although he is not well known in the Sarasota area.
Having lived in Sarasota since March and being involved by volunteering for the election, let me tell you, Katherine is despised by democrats here. And as of now, there are more democrats registered in Sarasota than republicans.

3. Cool - thanks for the update |
|
I was writing from memory of 2002 when Sarasota was deep into the Katherine Harris koolaid.

...Im almost positive Schneider will win the primary..Czaia is young, bright, and articulate, but doesnt quite have the weight that Schneider can throw around in Sarasota...
..I honestly think we can knock out Katherine Harris...and Im not just saying that...consider this...in the LAST election Schneider grabbed 45 percent of the vote...in a district where only 30 percent are registered Democrats...and early polls have showed that Harris has a high disapproval rating here...I honestly feel another Schneider-Harris showdown will bring a victory for the Democrats. Which would be OH SO SWEET, especially here in Sarasota...a GOP stronghold.

|
That's the info I got when I worked at the DEC office on Clark.

8. Sarasota has large Repub advantage in voter registration, but |
|
The Dem have been slowly adding voters while the Repubs have been losing voters. In fact the Republican registration in Sarasota fell below 50% this year (there's a large block of independent/other voters). It still gives the Repubs an advantage but Harris is pretty unpopular.

We drove through Sarasota early last week to have lunch at Phillipi Creek. We were on 41 on our way home from Boca Grande and I happened to notice the cutest building done with murals. I tried to get a better look and the sign said something about " Weekends. " Anyhow, I was just commenting on it to my husband when I saw a bigger sign in front of the business that read, Kerry and Edwards are girlie men. Vote for Bush. Depressing way to end our vacation. It must be hard to drive past that every day.
