Democratic Senate Candidates Spar In Sun City
SUN CITY CENTER - Two of the major Democratic candidates for the U.S. Senate, and the daughter of a third candidate, fielded questions for an hour Thursday from about 70 members of the Sun City Center Democratic Club.
They each fought to convince the group that they had the best ideas on health care, education and the war in Iraq.

Miami-Dade Mayor Alex Penelas and Rep. Peter Deutsch of Pembroke Pines attended. Hillsborough County Commissioner Kathy Castor, daughter of former state education secretary Betty Castor, turned out for her mother. Betty Castor was on a fundraising trip to New York.

While differing slightly on some issues, the candidates largely found themselves in agreement. They want the government to negotiate lower prescription drug costs for Medicare, more emphasis put on public education and for other countries to assist in Iraq.
