du meetup
there is a du meetup scheduled for Wednesday, August 18 @ 7:00PM.
my meetup account is a little screwy, cuz i live on the border, and it keeps sticking me in the burbs. i tried to nominate goose island brewpub, but it wouldn't let me. they do a lot of meetups, so i don't know what the deal is, unless it is because there is an obama meetup there the same night.
so, anyone going? i don't know right now if i can do it, as i will be leaving on vacation that weekend, and things may be a nutty. but i would like to go.

1. Can we post this on the front page, too?
I'll try to make it. I'm moving away from this fair city after six years on the 26th  so things may be a bit hectic for me.

Thanks for the heads-up, though! :hi: I know prolesunited, XNASA and susang were also interested, among others.

Glad to hear she lived so long. I will have a boxer-sized hole in my life as well. I'm moving abroad next month, and due to pet import requirements that my vet screwed up, I won't be reunited with my little guy until January. :(

Are you going to get another boxer?

10. dying to get one
i have 3 insane little terriers that need a little work first. 4 dogs is kinda crazy, too. 2 of the terriers are sisters who were traumatized neglected puppies. i am having a hell of a time training them. so, til they are straightened out, i don't need any puppy headaches. kinda got a feeler out for an adult, tho.
bummer about the import mess. give that vet some hell.

12. I'm so sorry about your dog.....

.....I have a Boxer also.....he's 10 years old and he's starting to have good days and bad days. The day we got him, I told my husband that someday this dog was going to break my heart....

Boxers Rule!!!

BTW...for all of you boxer lovers out there....in Ringwood, IL there is a Boxer rescue site...keep it in mind if you are looking for a companion.

Cheers,
Kim :toast:

13. dog rescues, ugh
i don't know the people in ringwood, but i tried hard to rescue a terrier before i got these pups, and boy did they drive me crazy.
i do know that the ringwood people put you through a lot of hoops. i would take one, but i have been down that road, and it is just too crazy.

14. Rescues aren't for everyone
Hi,

Rescue dogs aren't for everyone, but there's a big difference in temperment between a boxer and any terrier breed. Terriers can be extremely difficult even from birth.

I have a friend who takes in severely abused dobermans, the ones that would normally be put down.....it's a lot of work.

Yes, you are right...they do put you through many hoops before they release a dog, but it's because they don't want the dog to be placed only to be brought back a week or two later. It's too hard on the dog.
I've never taken in a "rescue" boxer, but I have boarded my boxer at The Lucky E (Ringwood) and the people were just wonderful with my dog.
I've visited with some of the dogs when I've gone to the kennel for various reasons and for boxer lovers it's like heaven....all of the "wiggle butt" boxers running around and playing.

I have rescued various other animals...the ones people buy and then decide they don't want....iguanas, rabbits, hedgehogs, chinchilla, hamsters, cats, sugar gliders and you are absolutely right about the amount of work that needs to be put into acclimating these animals to a family situation. The chinchilla drove me straight up the wall; I vowed to make an earmuff (only enough fur for one ear)if I didn't find it a home...quickly. I did find one, thankfully!

Hope you find a new furry friend soon!

Cheers,
Kim :toast:

16. my rescue is 1/2 husky, 1/2 St. Bernard, 1/2 humvee
and the sweetest, most loving huge critter imaginable. Although he likes to tease the golden child something fierce.

hey, where is the meet up? What location, or did I miss that someplace?

3. my bid for the venue
goose island is my home away from home. i couldn't seem to nominate it. but that would absolutely be my choice. they not only have great beer, and great food, it has both free parking and public transportation.
maybe someone else could try to nominate it.

17. Okay, I signed up and even
got hubby to agree to come with me to a Democratic meetup. :bounce: Of course, that was after a few beers when thought ... Anyway, he told me he had called the Democrats office to get Kerry bumber stickers for all three of our cars (*I almost fainted!!!*) and left his info and phone number. He hasn't heard from them yet, which really pisses me off! We need to get active an kick ass in the Dem Party office out here in DuPage!!!

But, here's the catch on hubby coming...he's not going to travel to Chicago or Wheaton, etc. If we can get one in Naperville, I think I can get him to go.

Then, I started thinking...what if we did something in this area like a community cookout/pot luck type of thing and at the same time have it as a fundraiser...a reach out for voter registration...a gathering of people supporting Kerry, but not so extreme to turn off anyone yet to invite and include the undecideds.

Anyone? Think this is a good idea? I know WaltStarr is about a stone's throw away from me. Benburch isn't too far. I'm sure there are others in close proximity to me (in this Republican stronghold of Western DuPage county).

Honestly, if we had 4 or 5 (or more) good people, we could put this together and ready to kick off within about 4 or 5 weeks...just in time to hit the GOP convention right in the ass!

18. ya know
my sister lives in warrenville. until i mentioned her name, she had never heard of christine cegalis. she says there are getting to be a lot of dems near her. but they don't seem to know what is up. so i agree that this is really needed.
what about having something at the roundhouse? i only go where there is good beer.
(i, tho, will be out of town the end of the month. i'll be at the protest, but also on vacation. be back labor day.)

19. PERFECT!!!!
The Roundhouse would be great! I was on Warrenville Chamber of Commerce board of directors (technically I still am this year hee hee). I could get hubby there too!

It's central, in the heart of DuPage, perfect food, great beer, nice atmosphere, etc. etc. If we're able to get it on a Sunday (or even a Thursday) night, I'm sure we could have the upstairs without any problem.

How do we move forward?

She has a lot on her plate right now.. There are a few threads in the meeting room..but the gist is this.. her daughter was just diagnosed with lung cancer..and her husband is preparing for possible heart surgery..

I think she is fairly new, so she may not "know" many of you.. I am sure she could use a friendly voice on the phone..maybe through PM, some of you could reach out..

I may be overstepping by asking, but she may be hesitant to ask..so I will :)
