I was finally catching up on my newspaper reading last night and came across this article from the Herald. It was from Tuesday's edition, before he gave his speech. Thought some may be interested, some good background info.

BOSTON - The rock-star U.S. Senate candidate sure doesn't keep rock-star hours.

As the rest of Boston partied well into the wee hours of Monday morning in places both staid and chic, Democratic nominee Barack Obama was in bed by 9:30 p.m.

As for his speech, Obama wrote it in a few hours at his home in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood, handing in the first draft the middle of last week to the campaign of Democratic presidential challenger Sen. John Kerry. In a week that's tightly scripted, about three-fourths of Obama's speech remained intact.

Obama arrived in Boston at 1:30 a.m. Sunday and left the hotel six hours later to get in an hour of practice since he's never used a teleprompter. Obama admitted he's better speaking extemporaneously than he is reading prepared marks - he sounded somewhat flat in a recent speech to a Chicago foreign-relations group - but said he's not worried. "I know this speech by heart," he said. Obama plans a mix of the boardroom-style delivery he displayed while meeting with a dozen editors and reporters at USA Today Monday and the preacher-style approach he employed, complete with index finger-wagging, at a black caucus meeting.
