Obama In Danville, IL --It was a LOVE fest!!! |
|
Obama was in Danville tonight as part of his downstate tour. Since Danville is only about 18 miles away we hopped in the car and went over. I was delighted to see about 500 people there. The crowd was so large there were guys there to direct traffic, and the place was chock full of media. Danville is a good Dem crowd anyway, but this was an amazing turnout...
I grabbed the first Vermilion County Dem I knew and asked her if this was local folks or people from nearby counties. Her face lit up and she announced that it WAS mostly their folks with a scattering of folks from a few other places. Obama's staffers seemed just happy as clams be with the turnout, and I can't say I blame them!
As usual, Obama was just stunning in his speech, and the crowd was loving him. The energy in that room was awesome to see, and a real shot in the arm for those of us who have been working for him since the beginning.
If every one of his appearances is like this one, this man is a lot closer to the Senate than any of us on here even realize. It was simply amazing. He's scheduled for an appearance here in Champaign County tomorrow, and I am praying we can match the enthusiasm and energy that he saw tonight.

Convention and can't stop talking about him. I'm a new fan from New York and can't wait for him to hit the US Senate running..and it's so cool that he was born in Hawaii..my son lives over there and hears about him on the local news there ..they were interviewing his sister who still lives there.

2. Heard a brief soundbyite this morning. |

He was on the phone with WGN and said The Republicans have been successful in making anything "Liberal" the boogeyman. That one, short, concise statement really said it all. *sigh* *swoon*

Following his appearance in Champaign County, Obama will be making his way to Coles County. It will be ineresting to see how many people will turn out. Coles is pretty conservative, but their has been some discontent lately. I think that Obama has a great chance to gain a lot of votes in this Republcan strong hold.
Much respect to the Democratic Booster Club (of Coles County) and the Young Democrats (of Coles County). These two groups are doing quite a bit to spread a truly progressive message.

I have had quite a few posts that have complimented the Democrats, but I feel that it is important to keep the left honest.
By the way, a good number of the Greens and the Socialist Equality Party candidate (SEP) were allowed on the ballots. In the SEP case , according to the reports that I have read, the Democrats withdrew their challenge. I applaud the Champaign County Democrats for allowing this candidate on the ballot.
