Wrigley inspections? Fact or a secret plan?
For years the TribCo has been trying to "rebuild, expand, and modernize" Wrigley field. A 90 year old structure, it has been loved by fans and foes alike for decades. One of the few remaining examples of fields built with a love for the game, not for selling toys, t-shirts, expensive food and watered down, overpriced pseudo-beer. TribCo views other, newer ballparks with their Infiniti and Lexus - styled private suites, high paying corporations, and sponsorship on every piece off open space, and they wonder, why are we missing out on those revenue streams?

Their secret plan has been to raze the place, and build a modern monstrosity with tons of air-conditioned suites for execs. Any normal Cubs fan (not that many are normal) or even any devotee of the game realizes that this stadium is one of a kind. Razing it would mean losing something very precious, very old, and very beautiful, in its old, ulgy, wrinkled way.

Now, the mayor of Chicago is on board with this conspiracy, demanding that the tribune close the field unless and until a piece of falling concrete can be examined. In reality, the mayor likes nothing old, loves all the graft and bribery that results from any construction in Chicago, and wants the old park torn down and replaced.

Beisbol fans beware! the Mayor and the Chicago Tribune will be stealing your stadium. Coming to a theater near you! Rated (R) for the unwanted rape of a historical gem.

1. it`s 90+ years old
and the park is starting to fall apart..the trib hid the fact that concrete was falling...the problem is there is no way to fix the park and there is no place to build a new one. if they move the park somewhere -like the burbs-they won`t be able to fill the seats. let`s face the facts the park and the near by bars is what sells seats not the crap baseball that is being played there. it`s a nice place to get drunk in the afternoon then go to the game ,that`s about it.
now if you want to see a good team and manager go to the southside-but there isn`t any bars or nightlife-but the food is good ,the bathrooms aren`t sewers, there`s alot of room to walk around, and as i said ozzie is the best manager in chicago and he`s got them playing way over their heads-it`s "fung" baseball on the southside..and ozzie would never say the crap baker has said the last few days....

3. read today's trib
The way they are handling it is so obvious. TribCo wants a new stadium. They will do anything to get it. The Mayor is simply doing what he does best. Providing more opportunities for his aides to prosper with new construction projects.

I agree that the sterile environs around Comiskey Field (what is the new name, Us Sell-you-out?) are pretty poor, but do you see any investment in trying to improve that area? Not likely.

The real question is, will they raze Wrigley and rebuild on the spot? or simply move to an undisclosed location with the VP? I am sure there is some plan hatched between TribCo and the mayor, and the real losers will be the fans.

2. That was the excuse Reinsdorf used to tear down Comiskey
It was too ols and structurally dangerous.

Hey, maybe they can land a spaceship in Wrigley like they did in Soldier Field.
