Quad Cities - you are getting AAR!
Q-C talk radio making left turn starting Monday

-snip-
A progressive talk station featuring Air America's Al Franken, Janeanne Garofalo, Randi Rhodes and more will debut at 5 a.m. Monday on WKBF-AM 1270, formerly Classic Country 1270.

"The Quad-Cities has been clamoring for a new talk radio station like this, and we think (Progressive Talk 1270) will satisfy that need," said Rod Evans, program director for the station.

"We are excited about coming to the heart of the Midwest," said Jon Sinton, president of Air America Radio. "This area now has an opportunity to voice its local and national concerns."

The 24-hour syndicated chat outlet kicks off its day with Air America's a.m. show "Morning Sedition" from 5 to 8 a.m., followed by Stephanie Miller from 8 to 11 a.m., Al Franken from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Ed Shultz from 2 to 5 p.m., Randi Rhodes from 5 to 6 p.m., "The Majority Report" with Janeanne Garofalo from 6 to 9 p.m., and Lionel from 9 p.m. to midnight. Repeats of the day's highlights will run from midnight to 5 a.m.

Congratulations! Lets hope it will spread across the state and, of course, the entire country.
:woohoo:

It is that slightly modified schedule some other stations have also gone with instead of the straight AAR line-up.

4. Please, please please , let me be able to hear it at work!
And I hope the ratings knock Jim Fisher for a loop. (1420FM) Of course, I have to thank that that blowhard for my satelite radio. He pissed me off so bad one day on the way home from work. I was on my way home from work, about 10 miles out of town and I made a u-turn, marched into the store and got satelite.

One guy called him up a long time ago and asked him about Ed Schultz. He just laughed and threw out the old, tired, "Liberal radio won't ever work" I hope he gets creamed!

6. Central Iowa
Will calling Clear Channel Radio, specific stations or anyone else help bring Air America to Central Iowa?

7. It certainly can't hurt. I remember one poster started contacting
a station and they eventually changed to AAR. There are a lot of stations that aren't doing well so I don't know why they wouldn't switch.

This site http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/home lets you search for stations in your area. Maybe it can help you determine which ones to contact.

You can also find articles showing the big uptick in ratings for a lot of stations that have switched. That is what will really convince them - like in the article above - how it will attract a different demographic that many advertisers want to reach. Good Luck.

Welcome to DU also :hi:

Where in Central Iowa are you?

8. Which stations are failing?
Thanks for the radio locator site. How do you find out how well they are doing financially or what their share of the market is?

I am in Ames, but it would be best if we could get a Des Moines station with a strong signal to carry Air America. There has to be an excess of country and classic rock stations in Central Iowa.

9. I was searching for that months ago when I wanted to target stations
that were doing poorly and playing RW crap. I never could find anything. I'm not a radio person. I don't know where to find that info. The locater I posted above was linked to in a different thread. That was how I found it.

11. Clear Channel Stations
I don't have more time today, but I would like to dig further.

It looks like some Clear Channel stations are at the bottom of the list (religious stations excepted), but the very worst rating was for one of their stations in Fort Dodge, a very sparsely populated area that is out of the Des Moines range.

I wonder if the thing to do is call up the Clear Channel guy handling the progressive radio end of things. I think I have his phone number somewhere.

It sounds like you dug up some good info.

I didn't have time to do much research today.

Which link did you use to find the ratings?

16. Ratings
The link to Records and Radio posted on another thread does have some ratings. You can search from:
http://www.radioandrecords.com/RRRatings/

Of the Clear Channel stations, the worst rating is KWMT AM in Fort Dodge, followed by KCCQ FM out of Des Moines, KXNO AM out of Des Moines, and KXMD FM out of Des Moines.

Fort Dodge is too red to fly on its own as it is out of the Des Moines range and almost out of the Ames range. But the other three station should be good targets because of their low ratings and their ownership by Clear Channel, which sees an opening for Progressive Radio.

The contact information I have for Clear Channel is Omar Thompson, (210) 822-2828, e-mail at OmarThompson@ClearChannel.com

12. Yaaaaay!
As a Quad-Citizen, I am happier than all get out about this news! Anyone who is within listening range, support AAR! AM 1270 has long been the ugly stepsister of QC radio. Lets make it Cinderella. Listen! I wonder if they are only doing an hour of Randi because they are scared that she'll best Fisher in the ratings?

17. Listening right now
Tried to call Morning Sedition, but got in too late. Now Stephanie Miller is on and while she's not AAR, she's still pretty good. I think I'll try and call her later and mention DU if I get a chance. I LOVE THIS! Progressive radio right here in my hometown! Yaaaaay!

Maybe now we have one station that won't run lies about Democratic candidates? I doubt the blatant Jim Hahn lies about Tom wouldn't have run. We need to support this station big time. Everytime you go to a store that advertises on it you tell them that is why you are there. I try and tell sponsers of the Cyclones that I am in the store because they help carry cyclone sports.
