The new Air America station in Iowa will be invaluable |
|
Come 2007, Democratic presidential hopefuls will be jumping at the chance to get on Air America if they know that Iowa Democrats have their own radio station to listen to. Hopefully the AA hosts will do some special shows from Iowa too. Air America has the opportunity to play a major role in the upcoming Democratic primaries.
Now we need to get stations in New Hampshire too.

1. I hope Air America comes to central Iowa... |

...I don't know how much more of 1040 WHO, I can take.
I heard Air America is coming to Eastern Iowa--so that's cool for that part of the state. Eastern Iowans will have to keep us updated on how they like it.
I'm thirsting for some progressive radio here in Central Iowa. It's a conservative-talk-radio desert over here!
As far as WHO--I do listen to Jan Mickelson. Twenty percent of the time he's totally intolerable, and I shut it off. However, much of the time he is entertaining. He's very good at what he does. Sometimes his topics are more middle-of-the-road, and other times he's somewhere to the right of Attila the Hun.
The rest of WHO's line up is quite diverse. You've got your conservatives (Limbaugh) and your arch-conservatives (Michael Reagan) and your staunch conservatives (Michael Medved).
Air America would be greatly appreciated in the Des Moines area!

7. The last time I listened to WHO willingly |
|
was 2 years ago when Jan Mickelson was in Boone covering UP's Challenger steam engine up there. One guy at work listens to it faithfully, but he knows (after 10 yrs there) to keep it turned down so I don't have to hear Rush at all!!
I also am looking forward to AAR in Central Iowa. I wonder how the station that used to be KIOA-AM is doing??

I'll listen, but my ears are going to be in pain from the static.

10. What's a super radio? |

I'm dying to find a way to listen at work. I'm only 20 miles from Davenport. Unfortunately I can't even get the stations in my town to come in. Any hope for me??

11. It's a GE line of radios |
|
like a Toyota Corolla. Very sensitive in picking up AM radio stations. We can get WKBF well during the day. We went into IC today and got pretty good reception all over except by power lines. Thought I'd look online and see if there were any for sale. Here's a link to one for $36: http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?icatid=4371&stk_code=ge72887&svbname=403

3. So far so good on AAR in the QC's |
|
I am listening to it now and called the radio station yesterday to compliment them on carrying the AAR and other programming. This station was dead last in ratings before the change. It remains to be seen where they will rank in the future, hopefully once the word gets out, they will take off. I think it'll be ok though because there are a lot of progressive thinking people around here. So far, Stephanie Miller is my fave, although she isn't on AAR. Franken is ok, Morning Sedition guys tend to drift a bit, Randi is only on for an hour, and I haven't heard the late night guy yet, but it isn't Malloy. Maybe later. Its great to actually be able to hear some intelligent talk for a change. One more thing, Katherine Lanpher's (sp?) parents live here and she talked at length about the Quad-Cities yesterday. It was pretty cool to hear my hometown complimented on nationwide radio.

563-344-7000. This is the number in the phone book and it is the Quad City Radio Group. I just told the lady who answered to inform her boss that AAR, etc. is a refreshing breath of air for our market. She thanked me and as far as I know, she told him. The website is a work in progress. Keep in mind that they will still carry Swing baseball and Cyclone sports, as well as Rocky high sports, more than likely. But it's ok. Someone has to.

The receptionist said they are getting tons of positive calls! We are on the western edge of their signal, so we lose the signal @7PM. I'd love to go to sleep listening to them.
