Hi.
Just to check quickly, do we have any Wesley Clark supporters from Iowa here on DU?
Thanks

1. You might want to post this in the supporter's group here on DU. |

I would do that, but it's a lot easier to get a response from this smaller group whose posts down get pushed down the list faster than Wes's name on the media's list of contenders!
I am on a Yahoo Group for Clark in Iowa, just wanted to see if anyone here was interested!

I never really considered him since he skipped campaigning in Iowa, but I do admire him. I think he'd make a great cabinet member, but not sure if he is well-rounded enough to be President. I think he is a 1 issue guy and hopefully in 2008 was won't still be a huge issue.

I am a General Clark fan, but waffling a bit with his new Fox gig. I can understand the reasoning that I got in an email from Little Rock. He is in my top three along with Edwards and Hillary. But, it is very early and a Governor could end up getting my support. There is such a long time before 2008 that I am just sticking to getting 2 or 3 new Congressional Democrats from Iowa in 2006 and keeping Terrace Hill.
So, who is your fav for Governor? I really think we have a great field, but I am intersted in hearing from Sec. of Ag. Judge. I have not heard her give a stump speech. If she is good I could get on her bandwagon quickly.

You know, I really haven't had a chance to hear a lot from any of the candidates other than Ed Fallon. To me Mr Fallon seems like a good guy with some good values, but I don't think he has the mass appeal needed to run for governor. Electability is definitely an issue when you are running against Nussle.
That said, I am looking forward to the Linn County Dems picnic coming up shortly. According to the latest info I have all of the Democratic candidates for gov will be attending and it should be a good chance to hear them all out, meet a few, and have a good time.
I have heard lots of good things about Blouin.
Oh, and I understand about the hesitation regarding the Fox gig, it through me off a little too. If you frame it right it, it does make sense. I think that someone like Clark would have a real shot IF he decides to campaign in Iowa this time.

5. Rummy said '12 more years' Sunday |

and George Will said that Bush's War will be an issue in 2008. So while I hope you are right, looks like the reich is tuning their rhetoric to get us used to being there. Me - lukewarm on Clark. Still love Howard.

7. Howard Dean was and is my guy (yeah, I know he's not running in 08) |
|
I wasn't thrilled that Clark didn't run in Iowa and am not happy about his psuedo-republicanism (and now on FAUX?) :eyes:
I didn't have time to even give him a chance in '04 and I'll probably be more neutral in '08 (if he decides to give Iowa a chance, that is).

Thems fightin words!
:hi:
No really though, what specific ideals or goals do you feel are psuedo-republicanism? I definitely would like to know so we can make sure the issues are addressed before 08!
Thanks!

9. I think Clark has the right to wipe the slate clean |
|
I'm a lightweight when it comes to clarifying my likes/dislikes of a candidate. So to argue doesn't help because I'll end up backed into a corner saying, "hey, it's just my (uneducated)opinion".
But here goes:
The speeches I saw with him shouting his support of the administration (I know, I know, spin, spin, spin). I had no idea he was a Democrat until he decided to run for the nomination.
The (and these are probably not appropriate) linger questions about Waco (was he there? did he give any orders even if he wasn't there? did he advise outside of being there?).
And why the hell did he not run in Iowa?
And on a personal note - He creeped me out at the debates - which has nothing to do about his abilities I know. But it's still there.
So General Clark has every opportunity to come to Iowa in 2008 and I will give him time and attention. Maybe I'll have the opportunity to ask him to clarify his support for the current president and about Waco.
But, FAUX? That defies reason. ;)

Well, you know..if I ever have advanced warning about an opportunity to meet Clark again, you will be contacted and expected to come along!
I attended a speech he gave at U of I, just before he announced he was going to run, in which he talked about civic responsibility, moral leadership, and foreign policy and it's effects. I was amazed. I had never been involved with politics or any kind of community effort and listening to him that day really woke something up in me. I became active in my community, registered as a Democrat (I was independent), attended my first caucus, elected to the county and district central committee, and volunteered for Kerry and other local Dems. I had always had a minor interest in politics, but Clark really inspired me.
Anyway, I suppose I will excuse your lack of specifics, just because I can sort of see where you are coming from and I like ya (except for the creepy debate comment - what did he do?). The Iowa thing irked me too!
As far as the FOX thing goes - a sheep in wolf's clothing would be a good way to look at it.

11. You make sure to tell me when he's in the Black Hawk County area |
|
and I'll make sure to go see him.
Like I said, I was Dean early on and just had a bad feeling about Clark (that I was able to reinforce thanks to MSM and people throwing rocks).
I might like the guy.
Oh, and on the debates...his eyes came out black on the T.V. screen and his shoulders in his suit were too big...looked like a creepy zombie or something..I told you it was weird. Just spooked me.
:hi: Fun talking to you Seth!

12. I have been studying Clark for about 9 months |
|
and also have reservations since the Faux gig. Still, he is my candidate for President. I think he could do very well in Iowa especially with indepenents.
A lot can change in a few years, but Clark is the guy for now. Check out DU poster Frenchie Cat for her posts on Clark. She is a little over-the-top in her love for Clark, but she does make sense. Clark is the RW's worst nightmare as a candidate for POTUS.

14. Could being on Faux Hurt? |
|
It up to Mr. Clark if his run on faux hurts him. It is his chance to stand up to the right wing rhetoric or back down from it. This will help determine if there is any chance of my support.
Way to early to throw out any other names. I can say I am not to keen on Senator Clinton. She spends a lot of time positioning her positions to know what she truly can offer. I think at times she would make a moderate republican happy. I wonder how her voting record would compare to Leach.
