Vilsack plans Labor Day visit - NH Union Leader
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Gov. Tom Vilsack, fueling speculation about his interest in seeking the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008, will travel to New Hampshire for a Labor Day picnic.

Vilsack will attend a picnic Sept 4 in Hampton Falls, N.H., at the invitation at New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch, spokesman Matt Paul said yesterday.

Vilsack has taken over the chairmanship of the Democratic Leadership Council and has done little to quell speculation about a possible presidential bid. He has said only that he will not seek a third term as Iowa governor and will leave office after next year.

Iowa's precinct caucuses kick off the presidential primary season and are followed eight days later by New Hampshire's leadoff primary.

Vilsack has stepped up his travel schedule in Iowa leading some political activists to conclude he's building his political base at home.

1. Personally, I'd like him to run for Senator
Grassley has to retire sometime and it would be good to have Vilsack as the junior Senator from Iowa.

4. I would like to see him focus on keeping Iowa first
before he goes off to explore his options. He's putting in so much time promoting Tom Vilsack that he's left Iowa behind.

5. I agree.
He could be the only person to knock Grassley off.

2. Heartland PAC
www.heartlandpac.org is up and running, well designed and likely to be very interesting.

3. Interesting?
I just hope Vilsack remembers to help to fill the post he's vacating before he races to the White House.
