They quit! Pomeroy mayor, 4 council members resign (Calhoun County)

POMEROY — The city government of Pomeroy ground to a halt as four City Council members and the mayor resigned. In separate letters dated Thursday, council members Sherry Ricke, Rodney Nelson, Kenneth Axman Jr., Steven M. Gerdes and Mayor Robert E. Schossow all resigned their positions. The letters were found at City Hall Friday morning by City Clerk Julia Pettit.

None of the city leaders gave reasons for their resignations or elaborated on their decisions.

The flurry of resignations came after a conflict over the status and pay of a former city clerk came to a head Thursday night.

The only remaining council member, William Sankey, said the resignations essentially paralyze the city’s government.

1. I read about this in the CR Gazette yesterday...

The article said that it would basically grind the city to a halt until after November's election, because they didn't think they would be able to get a special election up and going fast enough to do any good.

They mentioned they wouldn't be able to pay their clerk, maintenance guy, or their cop. I can't believe they wouldn't have some type of contigency in place for this type of thing. I bet they do once they are back up and running!
