Heard today that Iowa was +5 degrees F on average for Sept.
I think we were way over for January to April. I would guess after this blistering summer that the average for the year must be way out of line. Iowa City used to have a yearly average of @ 49.7 and that was usually within a degree plus or minus.
Does anyone have an idea where we sit for the year? Of course, this has nothing to do with global warming. I feel like I am living in southern Missouri any more, weatherwise.

1. Not sure where we're at for the year
But damn it's hot today. Around 86 or so. Keep in mind that it's October 3 and it's supposed to be at least this hot tomorrow. But global warming is a myth. Yeah right! I also know that here in the Quads, we are waaaayyy down on rainfall and may be for quite some time, the way it sounds.

2. I heard on the news that our low temp yesterday was an all time high
The old record dated back to 1884 or something like that.

3. We used to joke about making Des MOines a seaport
May come true sooner than we thought. Beach front property in Peoria?
Frankly I am really scared for my kids.

4. It is after midnight and 81.3 degrees outside!
I can't sleep because it is so hot and I refuse to turn on the air conditioner in October. ;)

5. It was pretty miserable last night--our air stayed off too.
I thought I was having hot flashes for a while, then I realized it was really still warm. :)

6. I'm still getting tomatoes in October!
If we were to hit average for the year it will be a terrible winter. Don't worry yet. The last five years or so say it will continue mild winters. With heat so high, a mild winter will be welcome.

7. Just to make you all nervous
the pelicans arrived on our property this weekend, about two weeks early. They pass through on their way south for the winter. I think winter is going to come soon and hard - but I only have the pelicans to make me think that. Any other predictors?

8. I think the past is prelude.
We haven't had a 'hard' winter for ten years or better. We had a lot of snow one year, but that only lasted a short period. The global warming theory is that weather will be more harsh or more warm, basically MORE of whatever you get. I am believing it will be warm again, with Christmas day in the 50s again.
Can you believe we had 90 degree days in April and October in the same year? Gotta be a first.
We have one cat that stays outdoors pretty much. She usually starts her winter coat in September. She hasn't started yet. She started shedding in February last winter and she was ok except for that little snap in May. If you can't trust your cat, who can you trust?

9. The cat we were taking care of (stray) ran away in May
Damn cat

I hope you're right. We bought a contract for our LP through March. Cannot afford to use up all the fuel in Dec/Jan and then pay premium for Feb/March!

:scared:

10. I had to go check
Our eldest cat is a horrible shedder during the warm months. We always look forward to fall because of all the Jenner hairs. LOL! She's still shedding... no winter coat started here either.
