I see where "Brokeback Mountain" is on at the Cinema 53 in Davenport. It's not playing at the Great Escape theater in Moline though. Hmmm...wonder why? Anyway, just thought I'd pass along that info in case anyone is near here and wants to see it. I imagine it's in C.R. and/or Iowa City too though. Or will be soon.

1. Fairly sure it is at the Sycamore 12 theaters in Iowa City |

Not sure I want to go. The homosexuality doesn't bother me. I am under the impression it'll be one of those 'touchy-feely' movies. I just don't care for them. If you go, post a review please.

2. I don't care for those type of films either |

But when it comes out on video, maybe I'll rent it. I guess we're in the male mode of "no chick flicks". This sorta sounds like one to me. No offense to the ladies out there.

3. I don't mind some chick flicks but they seem to be cookie cutter |

stories with similar endings and unnecessary smaltz. Seems like the last 10 years or so in an effort to guarantee that a movie doesn't offend anyone there are only about ten story lines going around Hollywood. So taking the same old shit and have homosexuals as the main characters is, to me, the same old shit. I've seen a bit of 'the L word' and (can't think of the male counterpart) on Showtime. Those series have some substance to them. I have as yet to see a review that says 'brokeback' is much more than a smaltzy flick whose claim to edginess is that men are the lovers. I remember an old Roseanne show where Dan was having the boys over to play cards. He was very hesitant to invite Roseanne's gay boss and his lover to play. Not because they were gay, but because they'd harp at each other like a lot of married couples.

4. Went down there Saturday and saw it. |

Theater was about 1/2 full. Saw a woman and what must have been her son ( about 12 oe 14 I'd guess] Lots of older couples.
I really liked the movie. Not too touchy feely. The first encounter made me uncomfortable, even though you couldn't see anything. On the other hand, they showed a love scene with the wife and that made me uncomfortable too. I did cry at the end, but I've cried while playing a video game. I guess I'm just weepy.
