3. Okay, so Grandpa Mike is standing outside in his nice short sleeved
Edited on Tue May-16-06 02:46 PM by Debi
plaid shirt and he's like "Chet Culver lobbied for IBP" and "He lobbied for anti-farm legislation" and "IBP is anti-farm and anti-family" and blah, blah, blah Chet Culver did a whole lotta damage in those few months after he graduated from college!!! He is bad, bad, bad, evil, Mike Blouin knows what's best for your, Mike knows what's best for all the women in Iowa and Mike Blouin knows best what to do with your tax dollars and oh, BTW "Chet Culver lobbied for IBP" Ahhhhhhhhh :yoiks:

Well, something like that. :eyes: I was a little distracted trying to strangle my television set :grr:

Thank God Grandpa Mike called Chet out on something he did for a few months after he got out of college (well, lobby anyway - Culver has stated SEVERL times that he never lobbied for IBP - but why should facts get in the way of Blouin's hatefest)?!! Whew, saved us Iowans from that BAD Chet Culver person! Mike will keep us women in line! Mike will give away our tax dollars wisely!! We need to TRUST MIKE!!! He knows what's best for us!!! :bounce:

Oh, and for all of you who DON'T believe Mike Blouin's bullshit here's Chet's most recent announcement to Honor Iowa's Senior Citizens:

http://www.chetculver.com/news/releases/display.asp?prID=1

I'm certain that the negative ad has nothing to do w/the fact that the contribution reporting will be out on May 19th - no smoke and mirrors here folks! Oh and did I mention Tom Vilsack, Tom Vilsack, 25,000 jobs, no really, Tom Vilsack!!

5. Email from Chet Culver's campaign
BLOUIN FIRST TO AIR NEGATIVE ADS WITH MISLEADING ATTACK ON CULVER

Iowa Secretary of State and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Chet
Culver released the following statement today in response to Mike
Blouin airing the first negative attack ad of the Democratic
gubernatorial primary today:

"Mike Blouin has chosen to take the low road in this primary by being
first to air negative and misleading attack ads on television.

Blouin is making a misleading smear and he knows it. When I was 23
years old, just out of college, I worked for a firm headed by former
Iowa Democratic Party chair Ed Campbell that represented a number of
clients, including Iowa Beef Processors.

My role at the firm was administrative, but as a requirement of my
employment, I had to fill out registration forms that identified me
as a lobbyist.

Let me be very clear: I never lobbied on behalf of Iowa Beef. I
abhor the practices the company used, and was happy to see them stop
doing business.

Throughout this campaign, I have stood up for family farmers and for
holding companies accountable for mistreating their workers.

It's sad that Mike Blouin has chosen to subject Iowa voters to
another negative, misleading television campaign instead of talking
about his vision for Iowa. Iowans are tired of these kinds of
personal attacks, but I'm afraid we can only expect more of the same
from Blouin.

I'm focused on talking about the future - about creating good jobs,
improving our education system, and making sure Iowans get the health
care they deserve."

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

All bold, underline and emphasis mine....:grr:

6. Attaboy, Chet!
That's exactly the kind of response that was needed. Blouin's lunging at this point. It shows in bashing Culver.

7. So wow..
Why don't they just use that as his response commercial. It surely makes the point rather well!

I think that if Culver were to air this email as an ad and refuse to air any negative ads in response it would resonate well with voters.

Ya hear that lurkers?! Do it.

8. ANOTHER email from Culver's Campaign - this one from Ed Campbell
And man....he's PISSED!!

STATEMENT FROM ED CAMPBELL ON BLOUIN ATTACK AD

Former Iowa Democratic Party chair Ed Campbell released the following
statement regarding Mike Blouin airing the first attack ad of the
Democratic gubernatorial primary:

"There is a clear line between respectful debates over issues and
ridiculous personal attacks by desperate candidates. Unfortunately,
Mike Blouin has crossed that line.

Blouin is attempting to smear Chet Culver based on a job he held in
his early 20's. The problem is that Blouin has his story wrong. I
should know, because Culver worked for me then.

In the early 1990's, Culver worked for me as an administrative
assistant and was required to fill out various registration forms as
a condition of employment. Make no mistake: Culver never lobbied on
behalf of IBP, who was a client of mine at that time. For Blouin to
willfully argue that Culver is anything other than 100% committed to
supporting family farms, protecting workers, and defending our
environment is dishonest and irresponsible.

Blouin knows better, and it's a shame he has dragged his campaign to
this negative point. Let's keep this campaign focused on Iowa
instead of cheap attacks on fellow Democrats."

So, what's the deal? Is Blouin just a fat-assed liar? Or is his crack campaign staff that lazy???

Probably a little bit of both. Remember the Bush campaign's ruthless attacks toward John Kerry. It didn't matter that they were misleading if not patently false; it only mattered that people heard them.

12. You know what it says to me?
It says that Blouin -- despite all of the 'endorsements' he likes to tout -- is scared. It is truly unfortunate the democratic candidates couldn't manage to stay above mud slinging.

We've all heard the gossip/whispers about Blouin simply being Republican-lite. Using Swiftboat-type tactics isn't going to do anything to lessen that talk.

I'm disappointed.

15. What it says is that Blouin's numbers are in the tank
and he has no way of going up - so the only thing he can do is tear Culver down and pray that this race heads to State Convention. (Where Fallon has the best organization so I don't know how Blouin plans on winning there - unless every legislator who was forced to endorse Blouin is a delegate - as well as TOM and CHRISTIE).
