State could lose seat in House after 2010

WASHINGTON - Massachusetts will likely lose one of its 10 House of Representative seats after the 2010 U.S. Census, said U.S. Rep. John W. Olver, D-Amherst, yesterday.

Based on census projections, "We are likely to lose a seat in 2011, but that isn't certain until 2010, and as we get closer, it will become clearer," Olver said.

Olver and U.S. Rep. Richard E. Neal, D-Springfield, represent the four most western counties of Massachusetts as well as cities and towns in central Massachusetts.

The Associated Press reported Wednesday that New England could lose about 20 percent of its congressional seats during the next quarter-century as the population booms in the South and West.

3. State is losing population
and I'm sure housing costs have something to do with it. I'm not sure how long we'll be able to stay here. We'd like a larger place, but we'll never afford it here on our salaries.
