Poll question: Poll question: Governor Poll (late May)
Edited on Tue May-31-05 02:08 PM by welshTerrier2
Whom do you want to be the next Massachusetts Governor?

(candidates are listed alphabetically by last name)

feel free to elaborate on your preference or your current thinking ... please add some comments to make the thread more interesting ... thanks ...

my last poll on the Governor's race yielded a fair number of votes so i thought it would be worthwhile to run the poll at mid-month and at month-end as long as people seem interested ...

the mid-May poll had the following results (supporting and leaning combined):

Patrick:.....48%
Reilly:.......21%
Galvin: ......5%
Undecided..11%
Other........16%

details of the previous poll are here ==> http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=158x4616

3. Thanks!
I'm glad you changed the Galvin column I voted in. Thank you!

BTW, do you know of any non-DU polls regarding this?

4. i don't ... sorry ...
i just received a phonecall from the Patrick campaign ...

i told them that Patrick needs to put some of his issue positions on his website ...

taking a poll, my own excellent poll notwithstanding, is frankly a bit absurd until the candidates get a little deeper into establishing their positions on the issues ...

7. I agree, but that doesn't seem to stop these firms.
I can't say I know enough about Deval Patrick, scarcely little outside of the fact that he worked with Clinton once and that he once shilled for Coca-Cola. Seems like he doesn't have much political experience, which might make his run short lived against guys like Reilly and Galvin. I'm interested to see what he has to say on education and stem cell research. And Jim McGovern's endorsement does carry a LOT of weight with me.

10. me too ...
i (with mrs. wt2) spent a full half-hour talking with McGovern ... he's great on the issues and i agree that his endorsement carries a LOT of weight with me as well ...

i think with Kennedy encouraging Patrick to run it's very unlikely his candidacy will be "short-lived" ... i hope things won't get ugly in the primaries but i expect they will ... Reilly, whom i know very little about, really seems like the "insider" ... i'm not sure whether that will help him or hurt him ...

if you haven't heard or read Patrick's convention speech, you should ... it was really something ... and, fwiw, Galvin is the worst public speaker i've ever heard ... i liked what he said at the convention but the guy has zero charisma and no chance unless he gets a speech coach in a hurry ...

12. I would probably say Reilly's the frontrunner.
He is a good public speaker and he has done a lot of good things as AG. And I don't think the "insider" label really carries much negative weight in Massachusetts, especially in a race against an incumbent of the other party. The only negative I can come up with is that the insurance industry doesn't really like Reilly, and that's a good thing in my book. Then again, it's been a couple of years since I've lived up there and I don't have the benefit of the daily local news, so I'm not totally up on the whole thing. I still have to learn more about the candidates though, and it's very early.

I haven't seen Patrick's convention speech - I will have to check it out when I get the chance.

5. Based on background and hearing him speak, I'd say Deval Patrick
has my support entirely.

Of course that could change in the future, but as of now, he's got my vote.

6. his convention speech really rocked the hall ...
one of the best political speeches i've ever heard ... i felt Reilly's speech, while good, was fairly flat ...

i hope this race for Governor focusses on the issues and not on a bunch of political crap ...

did you hear Patrick speak at the convention or elsewhere?

8. Yup, his convention speech was awesome.
That's where I heard him speak, and the welcome he got was pretty strong too :).
