Ending months of speculation about his political aspirations, Charles Baker, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care's president and CEO, announced Monday morning that he will not run for governor in 2006.
Baker, a Republican, notified the health insurer's board of directors and staff that he would remain with the insurer instead of entering state politics. Among his reasons for not running: It wasn't the right time for his family.
"Entering this race at this time would require putting my interests above the interests of the rest of my family," he said in a statement.
In an e-mail to employees explaining his decision Baker said a run for governor would place "an unfair burden" on his young children.
