Justice for Museum Guards! Tuesday, August 30, 6PM
Justice for Museum Guards!

Justice for Security Guards at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston!
Join the Museum Independant Security Guards' Union Tuesday, August 30th at 6 p.m. at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston (www.mfa.org) for a demonstration with area elected officials to demand an end to attacks on full-time work, health care, and overtime! There is an opening reception for right wing business man, Bill Koch from the America's Cup.

=====================================

What are the Museum Workers fighting for?

During Malcolm Rogers's ten years as Museum Director, he has cut 40% of the Museum's full time gallery guard force.

Now, he is proposing to take away our overtime benefits, and to cut sick leave, health and retirement benefits.
Management admits that they have already cut "not just the fat, but down to the bare bones."

The Museum is intent on having a part-time work force with no benefits.

Only recently, the Museum laid off almost 10% of its guards.

At the same time that Museum management is attacking the wages and benefits of their low-wage employees, they are beginning a $425 million building expansion. They show healthy surpluses in their public IRS statements. They grant huge salaries and raises to those at the top.

It is now impossible for a new applicant to get a full-time gallery guard position. Part-timers have to wait five to six years, if they are lucky, for one to become available.

Management proposes a raise that amounts to less than $300 per year, and cuts that will cost guards in the thousands.

Most guards are already living from week-to-week.

Yet, as they continue to draw fat paychecks and receive huge contributions, Malcolm Rogers and his friends would have the public believe that the wolf is at their door.

Malcolm Rogers himself makes over $500,000 per year, a salary that has nearly tripled over his ten years at the MFA.

We are dismayed that the MFA is acting like a draconian corporation rather than a cultural institution dedicated to higher principles.
The MFA does not seem to care for its own art and how it is protected. We care! It’s our job to care! We pride ourselves on our service to the Museum and to the public. We are outraged that Management does not respect our loyalty and our dedication to our jobs!

Please take a moment to send a message to Museum Director
Malcolm "Jolly" Rogers, telling him to stop pirating workers' rights.

Send a letter:

Mr. Malcolm Rogers

Subject: Concerned Art Patron

Dear Mr, Rogers,

As a member of the community that you serve, I am writing to express my concern over the treatment of security guards at the Museum of Fine Arts. The MFA survives due to the generosity of patrons like myself. Please be advised that I will be monitoring this situation closely and will base my continued support on how our security guards are treated by this museum.

Sincerely,
