Attended one of two voter challenger training sessions in WashtenawCo |
|
Today...expected turnout - 28 trainees, about 160 were there.
Rep. John Dingell even stopped by, and had a hard time finding a parking space (he wasn't expected)
Overpowering message - vote, get out the vote, and expect conflict...
Challenge and object when it is clear, monitor when it is not, get out the vote, move it along - don't allow in-line conflict to slow voters down so much they won't wait in line. (expect long lines)
Like the Fonz - be cool
Keeping voting moving!

1. Do you know where you will be assigned.... |
|
or were you able to choose the town and/or polling site?
I'm curious about what kind of conflict they expect.

2. I Chose my site, but sooo many shifts are available |
|
we had so many people, they had to wait in line (which doesn't mean more people are not needed!) I was a pawn - I lined up in the area I wanted to serve in, and in an area I thought I might have the most impact...until 2:00PM of course ;)
If you are asking if more help is needed: IT is! If Ordinary folks like me are needed, anybody else's help is more than welcome, contact your local Dem office and they will be happy to either train you or direct you to where you should be...

3. I'm an election inspector this year.... |
|
Our polling sites were assigned, but I'm very excited about mine. I'll be there from 6 a.m. until at least 10 p.m., but I know I won't sleep that night until we have a winner!
I was wondering about the conflict they told you to expect. What did they mean? Ann Arbor won't have many problems, but I wonder about some of the outlying areas.
I'm finally carrying on the family tradition. My mom was an election inspector in my hometown for years.

4. The righties will be out in the Ann Arbor area |
|
Don't expect to find them challenging votes in Howell or Barton Hills. Expect to find them in blue collar neighborhoods, near trailer parks, rental housing, the co-ops, "Black" neighborhoods, Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor's south side... They want to slow down the flow of Democratic voters. Just adding a couple of minutes to each person's visit, will cause some to leave the lines. Some won't even stop in the parking lot.
