Wow. The Democratic party apparatus in that district sounds pretty pathetic. I would have no bones with voting Green in this race. Although I think that for most elections, especially the presidential election, I buy Howard Dean's logic about not letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. I really believe that while far from perfect, a vote for John Kerry might actually save people's lives by blocking the very worst of the Republican agenda. An executive order to restore federal funding for stem cell research could pay off in developing treatments to save people's lives sooner rather than later. It's not inconceivable that the Bush administration might start yet another war in a second term, while setting Kerry's unfortunate attempts at hawkish posturing aside, it is much much less likely with Kerry. While he might have been spineless in his vote to authorize an what was an inevitable war with Bush in charge, there's no way Kerry would have launched this current war were he President. And Bush will be sure to do more little things in a second term like taking away heating assistance from low income people, something Molly Ivins traced to the deaths of poor elderly people in Bushwhacked. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that a couple Scalia clones appointed in a second Bush term might bring back the days of deadly back alley abortions in some states. Shit, it's not unimaginable to me that Bush might drop a tactical nuclear weapon on some country in a second term. Does that "scare" me into voting for Kerry? You're goddamn right it does.

Michigan Democrats need something like a progressive caucus. Maybe there already is one. The Dean campaign proved progressives can raise money. A progressive caucus could help liberal Democratic candidates like Seagraves (was) and maybe lessen the need for them to court complacent party hacks who don't care about anything than keeping their own power. It's understandable why this guy bolted for the Greens.

3. it's not too late to run for precinct delegate in August.

you need to go to local elections office to sign papers to be an official write-in candidate-
(this is to avoid people writing in Mickey Mouse etc)
you tell your friends & neighbors to write your name in & you just might win.
You can then do get out the vote activities in your precinct
& attend & vote in state & county conventions & help set policy & direction.
it's a 2 yr term
