Bush calls Iron Range "Iron Ridge"
Does this goofus not know WW II history? We'd be speaking German were it not for all that wonderful Minnesotan taconite ...

"Aside from a few local tie-ins - including a mistaken reference to the "Iron Ridge" instead of the Iron Range - Bush used his remarks to recap the high points of his presidency, from his handling of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan." http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/news/9146466.htm

Nick Hiivala, who believes Bush is infallible, attributes the gaffe to a keyboard where the "i" and "a" are closer together and the "d" and "n" are closer as well.

"I'm from the Ridge. I think it was funny," he said. "I'm sure it was just a typo."

1. My God..............
"Nick Hiivala, who believes Bush is infallible, attributes the gaffe to a keyboard where the "i" and "a" are closer together and the "d" and "n" are closer as well."

I can't believe there are people in this country that believe he is "infallible". This man obviously never reads a newspaper or watches anything but FOX. People like this make me want to :puke:

2. I love it when some one comes out with a statement like that.
You just know they voted for Bush.

7. to be clear "infallible" is my word
The quote from the article is in italics below. But I think my characterization is accurate: typos aren't made when speaking aloud.

3. I managed to catch the coverage of his visit on both channels 4 and 11
at 10 last night. Channel 4 only showed 3 protesters - 2 who were arrested outside the arena for protesting the marriage amendment and 1 who was hauled out of the arena for yelling "Shame!" when Bush mentioned Iraq.

Channel 11 had better coverage of the outside protests. They even had a sound bite from a woman who had her ticket to the event confiscated by the secret service because she was wearing a t-shirt that had "Bush" written inside a circle and the circle had a line through it.

I'm through with WCCO.

4. The ranger they quoted ain't much better, apparently
At the DFL convention in Duluth this year, I spent an hour or so chatting with what you might call a "stereotypical" ranger: 3rd generation American, used to work in the mines before retirement, drank a lot of beer, had a hell of a sense of humor (said a "bad year" for Range Dems was when Oberstar got re-elected with less than 75% of the vote), all around a very nice, wise and cool guy.

Only a Shrub apologist would make such a boneheaded claim about "Range" and "Ridge". It just proves that Bush is either dumb as a box of hair or can't read the goddamn teleprompter.

Frankly, I don't know which is worse.

5. From the Strib's article about the event:
This is quoted from the print edition - I don't have the link.

"More than 7,000 backers nearly filled the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center arena.."

They couldn't even fill the arena? Anyone know how many people it can hold? I wonder how many of the people there were really from Northern Minnesota. The Cities aren't so far away that they couldn't have padded the crowd with Repukes from down here.

The paper also said that about 1,500 demonstrators rallied at the St. Louis County courthouse - any crowd estimates from anyone who was there?
