What happened to Nick Coleman on Air America Minnesota?
He must have either quit or got canned. He was taking a break because his wife recently gave birth, but after 3 weeks of substitutes, they've replaced him with the rest of Morning Sedition. I checked the AAM website, and he's been dropped. Does anyone know what happened? I'm curious.

1. I have no idea... all I know is that now they are airing
Morning Sedition in his spot now. I wonder.

2. I checked the website too..
and it says he's on parental leave. Could be up to 12 weeks if he so chooses to use FMLA.

4. Where did you see that?
I just was at the website and I don't see any sign of him, anywhere. I know they made announcements last week that he was on parental leave and would return "soon," but this week, nothing. He's still writing his column for the Strib. Curious...

Oh, well, hope he comes back.

3. That is why I came here this morning!!!
Glad to see I am not the only one wondering what happened. He was at least on the website as a host just the other day. Now he is off. I bet they split ways.

Dear Dodger,

Thanks for your comments, but Nick will not be coming back. We will be offering the full three hours of Morning Sedition followed by three hours of the Wendy Wilde Show.

We continue to explore a number of options for additional morning programming that we believe will result in a very compelling morning drive. As we develop these concepts, we continue in our commitment to create the most entertaining and informative morning program for the progressive community in the Twin Cities.

Nick is very talented and we enjoyed the time he was able to host the morning show on AM 950. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.

9. Janet Robert probably thought Nick was too liberal
She's a centrist who supports Tinkle.

11. Tinklenberg, DFLer running for Congress in the 6th
against our progressive candidate Scott Mortensen.
www.scottymortensen.com

Tinklenberg won't even post his positions on any key issues on his web site. http://tinklenbergforcongress2006.com/ Under position statement it has said "coming soon" for a month. It's probably easier to raise money that way. Just say you are a Democrat, ask for volunteers and co-opt the Wellstone green.

He's anti-choice and anti-gay marraige and has said he would have supported the war.

Why send more Republicans to Congress?

12. The problem with the theory that Nick Coleman is too liberal is that
Marc Maron is at least as liberal as Nick Coleman.

My guess would be a salary dispute.

13. I liked his show...
but he seems to have a problem hanging on to Radio Gigs. He had mentioned a dispute with KSTP caused him to leave that station. He's a headstrong, opinionated guy. I'm sure that can make for a less than pleasant work enviroment.

If you know what happend please post.

15. Thanks for letting us know
I'll bet what happened is when Coleman went on family leave he realized he was sick of the commute from near downtown St. Paul to Eden Prairie early every morning for a 2 hour show. Probably decided it wasn't worth it considering a new baby in the house and his other job.

17. Oh oh
After reading the blog it doesn't bode well for DPBrown and I (we have a long running bit about the radio show we're going to get.) I don't think we'd be any more welcome than Coleman. And we were so excited about the opening at AM950. Dan just came up with the name of the show at our picnic last night, "Take No Prisoners". Damn.

18. Make a short mp3 and post it here and I'll probably
post it on my blog, as would other MN bloggers.

It can be 3 minutes.

19. Not "canned." A parting of the ways. Can't blame him for his perspective:
Keeping "guns, gays and abortion" off the issue list and micromanagement doesn't sound very progressive.

I was excited when Nick joined the station and I was listening for his first show. He was always responsive to all the events we sent him. I thought he was a great alternative to all the other male talk radio hosts.

I love Wendy Wilde, though. If the station lost her there wouldn't be any local voice for progressives on AM 950.

Janet, please be nice to Wendy!

21. Bah! Nick Coleman was the reason AM 950 had my ear early each day
and I often listened all the way through Nick's show and on into Wendy's.

Now, (Morning Sedition doesn't do it for me) I don't tune in until about 10:30, if at all.

I can tape Franken on Sundance and hear a replay of Wendy's best hour while I prep dinner...

22. Welcome to Skipper50
That is terrible to lose Coleman. He seemed a little dry at first, but in some ways was calming.
In the article, what he states and what Janet states are exactly opposite. Now either he was censored or he wasn't, there is no middle ground. Somebody is lying.
Morning Sedition is a little rough, but Wendy Wilde is great.

in to work in the morning. some days much more than that.

i don't mind reading coleman but i didn't enjoy his show that much...he was kind of dull imo. i still listened to him though and agree he was calming. i really wish they'd put malloy on earlier!

I was looking forward to Coleman discussing Mayoral politics this fall, especially considering his brother is running against Randy Kelly. We really need a local personality who will give us the low-down on local politicians and various races. I can't listen to Wendy Wild because I'm at work by the time she is on and can't get the station in my building.
