“Politics is not about public relations; it’s about public relationships.” ~Steve Kelley

Dear ,

Thanks for signing up to receive our email updates—we look forward to building an even stronger relationship with you over the next year...

Senator Steve Kelley is running for governor. Here’s why: Steve knows that people are the state’s greatest resource, and we must invest in people to build a better Minnesota for all of us. Steve believes in the values of hard work, education, and solving problems together—it is those values that will drive his investment in people and drive this state to success in the future. Steve is running for governor because he loves Minnesota and believes in Minnesotans, so he’s not going to stand by and watch as the current governor leads us straight toward mediocrity instead of maintaining our role as a leader.

What was Steve doing during special session?
He was poring over the budget numbers, developing a solution of his own. Days before the government shutdown, over 20 legislators from both houses and both parties showed support for a compromise proposal Steve developed to end the special session. Pawlenty did not take the proposal seriously, until 9,000 employees were thrown out of work and Steve’s support base grew to over 50 legislators. It was enough to scare Pawlenty into action, and much of Steve’s original proposal is included in the final resolution. Steve will abide by the DFL endorsement.

A New Office!
We will be settling into our new campaign office in early August. It’s located at 8100 Wayzata Boulevard in Golden Valley. Stop by to say hello and join the growing number of volunteers who are signing up to support Steve!

From the Horse’s Mouth:
“The current governor wants us to believe that we as citizens have to choose between good public schools and affordable health care. Between transportation and economic growth. That’s not the Minnesota way. We don’t go for good enough. We go for great. We don’t follow other states. We lead them. There is only one real choice: do what is best for all Minnesotans or let our great state become mediocre. I will not settle for mediocrity.” –Steve Kelley, June 1, 2005

From a Volunteer’s Mouth:
"I don't want someone like the current governor, who sees his job as an opportunity for advancement and as an ideological soapbox. Anyone who stands in the way of progress in education, health care, and the civil rights of citizens should not be governor. I work for Steve because he has the beliefs, ideals, and abilities it takes to be a working governor for this great state that is my home." ~volunteer Matt Forbes

Campaign fact:
153 people have signed up to host a house party for Steve. If you’d like to sign up, go to http://www.kelleyforminnesota.org.

Fact that has little to do with the campaign:
The
term "throw one's hat in the ring" comes from boxing, where throwing a hat into the ring once signified a challenge. Today it often signifies political candidacy.

What was Steve up to this week?

Monday: Steve traveled to Alexandria to speak at the SW/WC
Superintendents meeting, and then went on up to Bemidji to attend Frank Moe’s Wing Ding fundraiser.

Tuesday: Steve met with the Jewish Community Relations Council and in the evening celebrated his 30th wedding anniversary with his wife, Sophie.

Wednesday: Steve traveled to Rochester for the Chamber of Commerce Legislative Update meeting.

Thursday: Steve spoke at the SD 43 meeting in Minnetonka.

Friday: Steve attended the Minnesota School Boards Association’s
annual meeting, to receive their Legislator of the Year Award!

The Kelley campaign is a grassroots effort to reclaim the tool of government to create opportunities for all of us. Go to
www.kelleyforminnesota.org to learn more about Steve, contribute, and volunteer to build a better Minnesota!

Have a pleasant week!
