Norm Coleman named to GOP 'Truth Squad'
Sen. Norm Coleman will step up his role for the Bush campaign, helping to lead a Senate GOP "Truth Squad" aimed at Sen. John Kerry, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.

Coleman said the group will highlight Kerry's record in the Senate.

"To be there, for instance, when Senator Kerry says that he represents the conservative values of the Midwest, and to come back and say he's got the most liberal voting record of any member of the U.S. Senate last year," Coleman said, referring to a National Journal rating.

Coleman, R-Minn., will lead the group along with Sens. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., and John Cornyn, R-Texas.

1. Well!
That's just double-plus-ungood, although I am sure Orwell would be honored that his doublespeak is being put to such great use. Honored and more likely, terrified.

Filth--all three of them....
...the problem with this article is the National Journal rating, which is highly skewed, but the media is treating as gospel truth these days. The media are lazy and stupid, and the GOP know it.

3. God I hate that guy...
Hasn't been in the Senate two years and he has decided the best use of his time is to serve as a political hack for the chimp squad...what a waste of skin!!!

8. He knew he was a hack
even before he got named to this "squad." Ever since Cheney got him and Pawlenty to do the old switcheroo, Moleman's been aching to show just how loyal he is to Bush*. Anyone who switches parties is suspect anyway, and this way he can show just how very, very Republican he can be.

Conservative values of the midwest, my fat ass. This is Minnesota you're talking about, Norm, remember? Oh yeah, you're from New York. We're all the same out here.

Asshole. He makes me seethe.

6. Man, the company he keeps!
Saxby "I badmouthed a war hero" Chambliss and John "I'm obsessed with box turtles" Cornyn.

On second thought, maybe Norm "I danced on the grave of a beloved political figure" Coleman is right where he belongs.

7. yes, you're right! he is right where he should be and let's see his face
and hear his stupid talk all over MN media - the more he's exposed, the more soundbites we'll have and the more folks he'll rile up.

11. More from today's Strib
I didn't realize the weasel was actually going to Boston during the convention.

http://www.startribune.com/stories/484/4885949.html

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., will go to the Democratic National Convention next week to criticize the party's presumptive nominee, Sen. John Kerry, and defend President Bush.

Coleman said he will make himself available for TV, radio and print interviews to counter what Democrats say. (:puke: If there's a God in Heaven none of the media will notice he's there. I can see Normie cornering some cameraman to try and get some attention)

Kerry spokesman Bill Burton said Coleman, a former Democrat, is in no position to talk about changing positions.

"Minnesota has seen fewer larger flip-flops than Norm Coleman's entire career -- as a Democrat, as a Republican, as a Clinton supporter, then as a Bush supporter," Burton said.

The Bush campaign and the Republican National Committee are arranging the GOP presence at the Democrats' convention.

12. And from the state DFL website
http://www.dfl.org

"We must come together as Democrats to support President Bill Clinton and Senator Paul Wellstone."

- Norm Coleman, DFL state convention, 1996

“George Bush sending the master flip-flopper himself – Norm Coleman – to attack John Kerry’s record of public service is the absolute height of hypocrisy. Coleman led Clinton-Gore’s Minnesota campaign in 1996, and then he supported George Bush in 2000. Coleman supported Skip Humphrey, worked as his chief deputy, and then ran against him. Coleman supported Paul Wellstone, and then ran against him,” said Minnesota Democratic Party Chairman Mike Erlandson. “Is Coleman the junior Senator from Massachusetts now? Norm should be working for the people of Minnesota, not doing George Bush's political dirty work.”

Coleman’s hypocrisy knows no bounds. At the recent Minnesota GOP convention Coleman effusively praised late President Ronald Reagan, but he strongly supported both Walter Mondale and Jimmy Carter over Reagan.

Erlandson added, “Sadly, no one in Minnesota would be too surprised to find Norm Coleman campaigning for the re-election of President John Kerry and Vice President John Edwards in 2008. Anything Norm Coleman has to say about John Kerry’s distinguished record of public service isn’t worth listening to.”

14. We should come up with a Minnesota-friendly simile to
Edited on Thu Jul-22-04 05:40 PM by Lydia Leftcoast
describe Normie: "He flip-flops like a freshly caught walleye" or something like that.

On second thought, walleyes have a positive image in Minnesota. How about "He flip-flops like a freshly caught crappie." :-)
