Why Jack Wins

Why Jack Wins

Dear DFLer,

So it’s a legitimate question – can Jack win?

I believe Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer can and will win. There are no guarantees, of course, for Jack or Al.

That’s why I gave up predicting who was more electable long, long ago. Paul Wellstone and Jesse Ventura were never supposed to win and they did. Few would have predicted that Skip Humphrey —the most popular Attorney General in MN history—would come in a distant third.

What I know is that Jack offers a true difference and a real choice of authentic and principled leadership, and we desperately need that in Washington now more than ever.

We should be cautious about making comparisons to Paul—but we can also learn from his story. Paul started off 45 points down in the polls. He had much less money than Jack has already raised. Almost by definition he was unelectable by conventional wisdom.

But he had something special that no one else had or could buy or mimic—he could inspire, and through the courage of his convictions win over even those who may not agree with him.

And when that “something special” connected with the work of thousands of activists like you, conventional wisdom was tossed out the window and we won!

Ultimately, that’s what I think it takes to win. Jack will have enough money, and with an endorsement there will be much more. He will not match Al’s $15,000 a delegate strategy. He won’t have to.

Jack wins with our commitment and his passion and courage. We win with the real deal. Jack is the real deal. And when we win with Jack, we will win more than just a decent vote in the U.S. Senate—we will win a champion!

Sincerely,
Erik Peterson

2. Not bloody likely.
If Jack wins, we all lose. He's a good guy, but he'll get clobbered in the general.

3. And Franken won't?
I like Al's books. I think he's smart. I just don't think he can win in November.

4. Franken will crush coleman
The convention won't go to a second ballot. Franken takes it on the first, or gets a near supermajority, and Jack bows out.

Jack's a great guy, but he won't win.

8. I'd be delighted to support either Jack or Franken.
I just want Coleman to get his ass kicked. And I certainly hope Jack vs. Al doesn't turn into a nasty little pissing contest like Clinton vs. Obama.

9. It won't.
Jack's a good guy. Now the DFL has to stop acting like a goddamned circular firing squad.

Buncha friggin chicken littles.
