Friends,
We are entering the homestretch to Election Day. Every day between now and then will be critical and there are three great pieces of news to share with you.
First, the St. Paul Pioneer Press has chosen to endorse me. Sunday's endorsement reads in part:
She is running her campaign on the high road, with positive messages and strong support from a variety of sources. Her messages resonate with perspectives from people's lives instead of politically predictable announcements. I am very appreciative of the endorsement, which was a surprise - in 2002 the paper endorsed my opponent. I also am glad they recognized my choice to run a positive campaign that connects to voters.
Second, on Saturday I participated in my second debate, sponsored by the League of Women Voters, the St. Cloud Times, and the St. Cloud Chamber of Commerce. It was a great chance to answer questions and express my views in front of about 200 concerned citizens and I think it went very well. The debate will be shown on St. Cloud's public access channel 19 on Thursday, October 21, at 7:00 p.m., and I encourage you to watch it if you get the chance.
Last, on Friday we filed our most recent financial statement with the Federal Elections Commission. I am pleased to report that we outraised my opponent again, with most of the money coming from individuals, and most of that in amounts of less than $200. We will still be outspent by him by almost 2 to 1, but running a grass-roots based campaign is important to me and I am greatly indebted to all of my supporters. We are using your investment in me as wisely as possible and should be able to match my opponent ad for ad between now and election day.
Let me also say something about the television advertising. If you live in the district or have visited my opponent's website, you have seen his advertising. After the first few positive ads they have become entirely negative. His ads distort my positions and misrepresent the facts. There will be a lot of money spent by national groups to defeat me - the National Republican Congressional Committee has already agreed to spend over $500,000 on advertising - and you can expect those attacks to be misleading and divisive as well. The level of viciousness means one thing - that those opposed to my campaign are taking it seriously and are afraid I will win. With your support I will be able to respond to those ads and get my positive messages out on the airwaves and in person to undecided voters. Help us have the resources to win and contribute - or contribute again - today by clicking here!
I am committed to winning this election to represent the 6th District effectively in Congress, but I am also committed to winning right. With your help we will win this race in the right way. Please sign up to volunteer if you can; and if you can make an additional contribution, please do so.
Thanks for all your support!
