by the RNC? Considering major freeway exits are closed and city buses rerouted. My daughter is having a heck of a time getting to work, it will take her an hour longer at least.

1. I live about two miles from the Xcel Center, so, yeah, I'm gonna be "inconvenienced"
The only pleasure I get from this is that ol' Timmy got shafted on the Veepstakes, and now he's probably throwin' a temper tantrum at his house.

2. probably shouldn't have put inconvenienced in ditdits
I am a little closer to xcel and even my street is blocked off, it sucks. However your right about Timmy it is the one light spot it's bad enough having the pinch faced little creep as governor but as a "possible" VP nooooooo

5. Don't worry. I know what you meant. (And we're on the same page)
:)

I don't think my street is blocked off for this, but I'm sure to get some spillover from the convention, not to mention stupid Repub suburbanites coming to my street (Grand Ave) and parking all over the place.

I wonder if I should temporarily remove my Obama magnets from my car?

Just the fact that I had to think about that makes me angry; they've successfully intimidated people for the past eight years it's gotten to the point that I believe some drunk repub will see my Obama magnets and vandalize my car.

3. i just drove through downtown, or part of it....and I think ...
they've closed off more than they said they would. I don't know for sure because there were a million cops. ok,, tht's an exaggeration but one followed me for about three blocks....roughly the time it takes to run your license plate through the computer network....and you, too if you;re the registered owner,...

call me crazy. i am a nervous nelly.

but I'm already getting creeped out by this.

4. I live downtown, so yeah!
The frigging city went on lockdown at 6:00 PM last night. I had to hurry home from my vacation and stock up on groceries ahead of all this. I have to cross the Mississippi to get to work and I'm still not certain if I can get there by foot. If not, I will have to venture out in my car and drive a few miles out of my way and hope I can get past the check point perimeter that is set up a few blocks away from my work place.

For the first time ever I saw security guards at the grocery store, two security guards at the gas station, extra security guards on the street outside of practically every building (like one extra guard can stop a hoard of rioters), new cameras and microphones on every street corner, and more police cars than at a policeman's funeral. I also saw what appeared to be an impromptu jail set up on surface parking lot off of University Avenue.

The whole scene is surreal and the convention has not even started yet.

7. Looked like it was east of Regions Hospital
Like I say, I could be wrong. But all that fencing was not there last week.

And tonight I ventured out and was able to get around with no problem (I just avoided the area near the Xcel Center). It's just a bitch to park downtown if you do not already have a reserved parking ramp space for your car.

9. On the bright side
if you live outstate, forget the speed limits. Nearly every state trooper will be in the metro area this week. And, what bites for the troopers is, it's up to them to find their own lodging - though I would hope they will be reimbursed for whatever it might cost them. (I have this info from a parent of state patrolman).
