1. I saw this ad on TV last night
the "punch line" is quite a surprise and does indeed show how sleezy Normie is.

2. When Al Franken appeared with Al Gore on Saturday,
...Franken mentioned the Norm Coleman ad where Franken is shown gesturing before telling the story.

3. Wow, what a fantastic ad.
No wonder Normie's calling off the attack dogs now. Or at least claiming to. 527s will probably step up to the plate.

4. 527
That's a good point. It doesn't matter if a campaign goes "clean." That just means the attacks will come from other "unofficial" sources.

5. The NRSC (Republican Senators group) is running negative TV ads....

...against Al Franken, still.

So is the Chamber of Commerce.

6. Note that in one of his own ads Normie says
he "can't help" what others may say on his behalf. Always the weasel.

7. Al Franken gesturing
Edited on Mon Oct-20-08 05:03 PM by model t
I have studied both the slimy Norm ad and Al's response. What I find interesting is that, from what I can see, Al is wearing a diffierent outfit in the two ads. A suit and tie in his response and a short sleeved shirt in the one that Norm used to smear him.

8. Well, then contact Pat Kessler at WCCO because he's the one who first brought this up
in his "Realty Check" segment.

9. He's probably told the anecdote more than once

It's clear at a glance that the two videos weren't filmed on the same occasion. But the gestures, and the words mouthed, are the same. In the Coleman ad, you can see Franken mouthing "You can take this guy!".

10. the thing about Al is that he always looks like this when he gets fired up
When he was speaking at the rally last week with Hillary Clinton. He was getting energetic talking about turning this country around. If someone was just taking video with no sound, it would have looked like Sleezy's ad.

The point is that you can't just take a video clip and edit out the sound. You lose all the context, whether Al is retelling a Paul Wellstone story and talking about how the pResident's administration has screwed us all for the past 8 years.

11. Plus he was poking gentle fun at his dear, departed friend's style of public speaking
Wellstone used to build to a crescendo at the end of his speeches, and would end up shouting and jumping and punching his fists in the air to leave the crowd feeling inspired and motivated. The humor in Al's anecdote lies in the image of Wellstone using that same characteristic style at his kid's track meet.

And this is what they've got. Making a funny story about an old friend into a weapon of mass deception. At long last, have they no decency?

And Al's been such a gentleman not to bring up Norm's tawdry personal life. Not even through proxies.
