Carville to speak at Humphrey Day Dinner
Found this in my email tonight. I won't be attending due to the cost, but some of you may be able to.

You are cordially invited to attend the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party's annual Humphrey Day Dinner. This year, we are excited to have one of the most highly acclaimed & entertaining political strategists, James Carville, as our keynote speaker. You can be sure that the "Ragin Cajun" will spice things up and get the crowd energized for our march to victory in November with his funny anecdotes and insightful perspectives on current events. Don't miss your chance to hear him live!

1. One of my first DFL events was the Humphrey Dinner
I was an 18-year-old freshman in college in 1987-88, and my college Young DFL chapter volunteered to help out at the event.

My first duty was to fetch some bottled water for the "green room", where the speakers were hanging out before the went on. Me and another guy got a cooler together with the water and walked it back to the room.

We go in there, and there's Walter Mondale, chilling out with Gov. Rudy Perpich. There were also several other "dignitaries" back there, but nobody I recognized offhand.

IIRC Paul Wellstone also spoke briefly at the event that year, and he really whipped the crowd into shape, as always.

Although I don't agree with Carville's politics, he'd still be great to see in person. He'll probably get the crowd all riled up!
