my letter was published in the Mnneapolis Star Tribune today.
December 2, 2004

A dirty election

Regarding the Nov. 29 letter that "there were no major irregularities or difficulties" in the 2004 election: Nothing could be further from the truth.

The Free Press newspaper in Ohio is running one article after another about Republican dirty tricks, including diverting voting machines from black neighborhoods to white neighborhoods to create long lines for black citizens.

The Poll Tax of 2004 in Ohio is that some blacks could only vote if they could wait in line for several hours, away from their jobs and their families.

No one knows what the outcome would have been if there had been an equal number of voting machines per citizen in white and black neighborhoods, but it is clear that the 2004 election is tainted.

Eric Jaffa, Brooklyn Center.

1. great letter
I like that new poll tax concept. It's a logical analogy, yet packs an emotional punch.

3. Well done! I saw that today, and was immensely cheered!
Congratulations are in order -- I can't count how many times I've written the strib and not ONCE had a letter published. I'm so proud to see a fellow DUer make it! :bounce:

5. No, I didn't have a clue. I was just really happy that someone
had said what was said in that letter. It didn't occur to me that the writer might be a DUer, I was just really pleased to see someone make such a well articulated point about the Ohio election.

The "poll tax" reference was pure genius! Good job, Eric!

6. Thanks, but I didn't coin the term
"Poll Tax" for the lines in Ohio.

I probably saw it on this website, though I don't know who came up with it.

7. Nice Job Eric!
I was wondering if that was you. You mentioned the 11/29 letter here before, so I guess I shouldn't be suprised.

Nice work! :toast:

10. Great letter. It obviously impressed the editor in charge of letters
to include it, with so many that they get.
