Should we start planning our DU holiday party now?
Since everybody, including me, is so busy in December, I thought it might be nice to have a gathering between Christmas and New Year's instead of trying to pack in another event.

By the way, on the matter of union establishments, I recently attended an event at Nye's Polonaise, one of the restaurants on the list. It's huge with lots of rooms, and while the meals are expensive, there's a bar menu available on week nights only that's pretty reasonable. An additional advantage is that it's on a bus line (#6).

5. We sit at our computers in our respective parts of Minnesota
and type inanely while quaffing our preferred beverage.

Why...what did you think?

2. A holiday party sounds great, Lydia.
I'm going to be out of town for a few days that week but I will be there if I'm in town. Wouldn't miss it!

As you can see, I'm even wearing my festive pretzel to help get in the holiday spirit.

Nye's is a hoot. You'll feel like you stepped into the 50's. And the sauerkraut is to die for.

and GAspnes is correct - Nye's is a hoot. A couple years ago we took a visiting friend there to make sure she had a true Minnesota experience. Loved the relish dish and the red booths.

I only mention it because it's so conveniently located for me  and it's long been the local watering hole for the DFL out this way.

Do they have their own parking lot or are you on your own? I've been to the deli across the street and have wondered that.

Edit: Does the World's Most Dangerous Polka Band play during the week?

at Nye's Polonaise in NE Minneapolis (but not too far NE) on Tuesday, December 28 at 6:30 PM. I've got bvar22, GAspness, Love Bug, Alisa, and possibly katinm and MinnesotaMike31 on board.

Who else is with us? (Remember, you're either with us or against us! :-) )

38. Will miss this, again
We usually do not travel that much, except these last few weeks..

And I was going to suggest a "winter party" for January. This is when everyone goes back to work, all the parties are over the days are just starting to get really cold and still very short...

Well, have fun, anyway. Better luck next time. MLK's birthday, perhaps?

40. a winter party once everyone's back is a great idea too
We were getting such good turn-out last summer that it was seriously proposed that we have a monthly meeting. A january get-together could kick off that tradition.

43. The "Nye'sEvents Coordinator" returned my call today.
She said that there was no apparent conflict and Nye's would contact me on Wednesday (after their scheduling meeting) with a confirmed reservation. She assured me they would have no trouble accommodating a group of 15-20.

Calling LL.

IIRC, you have a pretty good list of MN DUers. Let me get the "confirmed reservation", and I'll help send out the notices.
