Senator questions security funding cuts

Lashing out at the Bush administration's pronouncements on Iraq, U.S. Sen. Mark Dayton, D-Minn., said Wednesday he was "fed up with being misled, having vital information withheld or distorted and being lied to."
Dayton told Minnesota reporters he is unhappy the Senate Armed Services Committee regularly hears one version of events in Iraq — whether about prisoner abuses or the overall situation — only to later read that the picture is bleaker or that officials actually hold a more dire view.
Dayton said he was venting "outrage that we are being lied to willfully and consistently by high-level administration officials," and he's asking whether "we need to put all these officials under oath every time they testify."
Separately, Dayton hinted that he might block the nomination of the just-nominated Secretary of Homeland Security until someone explains the "nonsensical" decision to declare Minneapolis and the west metro as priority areas for anti-terrorism funding, while eliminating the funds for St. Paul, Ramsey County and Dakota County.
