980AM bleeding over Air America Minnesota's signal in South Metro
Edited on Tue Apr-19-05 12:40 PM by Oreo
980AM which is a right-wing religious station has started bleeding into 950's frequency since this weekend.
http://www.kkms.com/ they're a division of Salem Communications who runs everybody's favorite rightwing nutbags Medved, Bennett, and Prager among others. http://www.salem.cc/

This may be an FCC violation. I noticed it yesterday in Eagan. If you're in the south metro, please turn to 950 and see if you're hearing the same thing.

Post your info here so we can let station management know

Here's FCC's complaint site

1. Oh yes.
This is a violation. Definately. I would suggest you go to the FCC site and see how to file a complaint. It might well be an illegal rise in transmitter power. Such things have to be approved by the FCC.

6. About the black helicopters
A woman from rural Oregon phoned into a talk show on KBOO-FM (Portland's equivalent of KFAI) and said that black helicopters had been buzzing her land and scaring her livestock. After a couple of her cattle panicked and got hung up on a barbed-wire fence, she started calling every federal agency in the Portland phone book and asking them if they were sending out helicopters to survey her farm.

When she called the DEA, they started stammering around, and several phone transfers later, someone admitted that they had been flying low over farms in her area looking for marijuana patches.

She told them that if they wanted to search her land for marijuana, they could damned well get a search warrant and present it, but she now knew who to send the veterinary bill to.

She had no more problems with "black helicopters." She learned that the DEA helicopters are not black, but dark green, although they may look black under some circumstances.

Given the fanaticism about marijuana that prevails in the DEA, the fact that some farmers try to make extra money growing dope, and the fact that the stuff grows wild all over the place, the fabled black helicopters sighted in rural areas are probably nothing more than DEA copters, not conveyances for foreign troops.

Makes sense, yes?

4. That must have been what we heard near the Lowry Tunnel yesterday
It was as if 950AM wasn't tuned in precisely and we heard someone else talking. When we came out the other side of the tunnel, all was well.

5. Happens to me in Eagan
I'm sure Salem is doing it on purpose.

7. I work in Eagan and...
...I can't hear Al and friends anymore while I'm at lunch. Ugg.

My office is really close to the 1280 Patriot antenna and I can't hear any AM stations when I get too close to the antennas. Kinda sucks.

8. I get it until I get to a part of town.
It alway went out in the same spot. But yesterday I stopped working miles from my house. I lost it in Rogers instead of Albertville. Is the station aware of this?

9. This kind of thing happens often in AM radio
980's signal comes out of Eagan. With AM signals, when you are close to the tower, you may experience bleed.

This has been going on for years. Beat Radio and Radio Aahs were probably bleeding all over 950's signal then.

10. Not much
Yeah, I don't think there's much that can be done about it.
