Bush bashing at Guilford College Graduation
So, I attended my mother's graduation today at Guilford College. After 15 years of being a Systems Analyst, she's decided that Psychology may be her new field and now has the papers to make that possible.

Anyway, the ceremony had the usual round of speakers: those from the student body, those from the "real world," and those from the faculty and staff.

Three of 5 speeches contained substantially more than overt antipathy to Bush. There were mostly cheers at the derision and laughs at the jokes, though there were some groans. The other two were politically neutral.

(sarcasm)I guess it's time for the administration to crank up the free-speech squelching laws on college campuses, lest these "people" give "aid and comfort" to the "terraist."(/sarcasm)

Maybe North Carolina will swing blue this year. John Edwards as VP, anyone?

3. My 80-year-old grandmother loathes this Administration.

She struck a conversation with me about this Rumsfeld issue, and we discussed how utterly embarrassing this whole Administration is.

Now, if we can mobilize everyone of all ages to eliminate (and ideally, impeach) this Bush administration, maybe we can eradicate the stigma of Jesse Helms-inspired social backwardness.

4. Thank you!
She's worked very hard to make this switch, and I'm very proud of her for choosing and following her dreams.

5. Thanks for the report on this! NC here, and good news might mean we
have a chance at being one of the "swing vote states!"

6. good news
I'm happy to hear this. I lived in Greensboro for a couple of years before moving to SF in '89 and one of my reasons for leaving was the overwhelming conservatism (spiced up with overt bigotry toward anyone who wasn't, Republican, heterosexual, and Christian) of the majority there. Maybe this means there's a shift toward intelligence there.

8. Thanks to the triangle park, it's becoming...
more diversified. Greensboro is becoming more and more integrated with people from all over the country. Big city Blue on it's way.
Throw in John Edwards and I feel this state is in more than swing.

Congrats to your mom--that's great.
