COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A poll released Friday says that more Ohioans disapproved of the job Gov. Bob Taft is doing than any governor in the poll's 24-year history.

The Ohio Poll, sponsored and conducted by the University of Cincinnati, found that 55 percent of those surveyed disapproved of the way Taft, a Cincinnati Republican, was handling his job. Thirty-four percent approved of Taft's job performance and 11 percent neither approved or disapproved. Taft's previous disapproval rating in the poll was 43 percent in February 2004.

The telephone poll was taken March 21-April 10 among 846 adults statewide. It had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

The previous highest disapproval rating was Taft's 50 percent rating in April 2003. Democratic Gov. Richard Celeste holds the all-time low for approval — 32 percent in April 1983. However, 23 percent neither approved or disapproved so Celeste's disapproval rating was 45 percent...

1. And yet, the Republicans will probably win again next year.
Ohio Democrats can't seem to capitalize on the fact that everyone hates Taft. I hope Coleman or someone hammers the Republicans hard.

2. What's going on with Coleman?
Seriously, what is his problem lately? I feel like he's going with the "any press is good press" style of politics. First, he hires a Republican Chief-of-Staff. Then, he completely flips on that radio show.

Of course, I'll support him if he's the nominee, but I'm really starting to hope that Sherrod Brown or Ted Strickland jump in the race.

3. I can't tell what to make of the radio thing
Mayor, radio host go at it

Associated Press

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Mayor and Democratic candidate for governor Michael Coleman said Friday that his bout with nationally syndicated radio host Glenn Beck over an alleged sexual assault at a Columbus high school should not interfere with a police investigation of the matter.

The assault and the city's response has been the subject of Beck's radio program this week. It is aired locally and draws 100,000 people during the week, said Steve Konrad, WTVN radio's program manager.

Coleman said he would have preferred to avoid the program but he "just couldn't bite my tongue" over Beck's three days of "blasting the city."

"It didn't end up well," Coleman told The Columbus Dispatch for a story published Friday...

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The controversy surrounding the handling of an alleged sexual assault at a Columbus high school continues to draw attention.

On Wednesday, Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman called the Glenn Beck national radio show after the issue was brought up on air, NBC 4's Elenora Andrews reported.

The mayor's staff was listening when Beck questioned why more wasn't being done, and Coleman called in to give his side of the story.

The teens in question were expelled. But one, who had a Dayton-area pastor as a spokesman and his mother by his side, spoke publicly Thursday about the alleged incident.

Talk Show Host Discusses Mayor's Comments With NBC 4
Beck Says He's Outraged

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- National radio talk show host Glenn Beck said Thursday that he remains outraged by Mayor Michael Coleman's responses regarding the handling of an alleged sexual assault at a Columbus high school.

For more than a week, Beck has questioned the Columbus Public School's handling of the alleged assault inside the Mifflin High School auditorium.

The district came under scrutiny after a developmentally disabled girl was allegedly sexually assaulted last month by a group of boys, NBC 4 reported. Administrators then failed to call the girl's father, police or any child protective services, NBC 4 reported.

The school's principal is in the process of being fired and three assistant principals were suspended for 10 days for failing to contact police, NBC 4 reported...
