English Norton's official language (Ohio)
Sorry, but it's a registration site:

Council votes in favor of adopting resolution, says nothing will change

<snip>

City Council voted 4 to 3 Monday to adopt the resolution. Council President Brenda Hlas said that ``nothing's going to happen'' as a result of its passing.

<snip>

(So, they admit it's "feel-good, do-nothing" legislation!)

2. Had to laugh - RW morning DJ on WKDD was ridiculing this
I posted on their "sound off" page that these are exactly the type of people that the idiot was backing in the past three elections.

It's one of the early shots in the "illegal immigration" non-issue battle coming up for 2006.

4. many European immigrants too
I am not kidding, I know someone who works there, they have many immigrant families from eastern europe.

But you point is well noted, I suspect they have less than 5% of non-us born.

5. what a bunch of yokels
Councilman William Mowery, who introduced the resolution, said its goal was primarily to honor those serving to protect the civil rights of Americans.

``To be able to stand in Norton and say what you need to say, in English, I'm proud of that,'' Mowery said before the legislation was adopted.

----

Was this a problem before? Was this racist ass unable to stand in his speck of a town and speak English? And who exactly is being honored here?

6. An update:
The Democrat mayor has said he will not sign it.

He's not sure if he will veto it, or ignore it.

He fears a backlash and a smear of Norton's image . . . I say, good for him!
